Up the West will outpace the East in economic growth in the next few years and Saskatchewan will Lead the nation an Ottawa economic analyst said yesterday. The conference Board in Canada projects accelerating growth for the four Western provinces through 1982, while the six sluggish Sisters to the East will Strug Gle to catch up. Peter Gusen director of the Board s provincial Analy Sis group told an economic Outlook conference that the projection continues a trend begun in the Early 1970s. The West outperformed the East eight out of the last 10 years and every year since 1975. Gusen said unemployment in the West should remain Low and inflation will follow patterns in the rest of the country except in areas such As housing where it will be higher. Gusen said Saskatchewan would take Over from Alberta in 1981 to Lead Canada with a 5.6-per-cent growth rate. Saskatchewan had led the West three times in the 1970s but this was due to huge increases in farm product Ion said Gusen. This time Saskatchewan s leadership will come from More broadly based growth.
