May 7, 1981 violence erupts on eve of Sands burial from Reuters a Belfast up a policeman was shot and killed last night As fresh violence erupted on the eve of the funeral of Irish Republican army member Bobby Sands who died in jail tuesday on the 66th Day of a hunger strike. The policeman was shot in the head when called in to help Deal with Stone throwing youths in Belfast. A policewoman and a nine year old boy were injured in the shooting police said. Another policeman was shot in the Chest in Londonderry the second Lar Gest City in Northern Ireland.
