Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - June 3, 1981, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free press wednesday june Page 46 my answer deaths and funerals by Billy Graham question our Church will be electing new officers very shortly. What kind of people do you think we should look answer the responsibility of a Church office is a very serious and important one and i Hope the members of your Church will be praying that god will direct you to the right people. Too often i am afraid Church officers Are chosen for the wrong they Are outstanding business men for example or because of their personality or even just because they Are willing to serve. These things of course May be of some significance in choosing a person since they May give clues to leadership qualities. But the main requirement for Church officers should be their spiritual qualifications. Notice what was said about the men who were first chosen in the Early Church to take position of leadership. They were to be men of Good repute full of the spirit and of Wisdom acts they were to be full of the which Means that their lives were controlled by the holy spirit. In other words they were persons who had yielded themselves to Jesus Christ and demonstrated by their daily lives that Jesus Christ was lord of their lives. They also were to be full of Wisdom which suggests that they had practical Wisdom and knew How to make Wise decisions. This Combina Tion of spiritual maturity and practical Wisdom is very important several books of the flew testament also give More detailed instruction about the spiritual and practical qualifications a Leader in a Church should have and you should study them. These would include sections in the books of first and second Timothy Titus and 1 Peter. There is much in those books which especially applies to pastors and teachers in the Church in memorial Winifred Ambler Nee Hunniford on june 2, 1981 at Victoria Genera Hospital Winifred Ambler beloved wife of the late William Bui Ambler who predeceased her in 1978.
