Friday june 9 Lyon avoids Patria Tion speculation a. _ by Mary Ann Fitzgerald Manitoba Premier Sterling Lyon said yesterday he still has not ruled out a supreme court of Canada decision on the Constitution next week despite news reports to the contrary. The decision on prime minister Trudeau s constitutional plans is not on a reported list of judgments the supreme court will deliver tues Day. It does t mean that the court s findings cant come Down next wednesday or Lyon said in an interview. Reports say the supreme court list does t mention the Legal Challenge by eight provinces to the Federal government s plans to Amend and Patriate the Constitution. A court official said there was no Chance the judgment will be added to the list the court recesses thursday until sept. 30. Lyon says he is not speculating on the meaning of a possible delay in the court ruling As late As next fall. I Don t think it Means anything yet. It is All just some lawyers have speculated that a delay suggests the court is deadlocked and seeking a Compro Mise while others say some judges Are slow in writing their decisions.
