Up Mic Mac indians Here vowed yesterday to step up Salmon fishing using borrowed nets after Quebec provincial police seized most of their nets from the Resti Gouche River during a Surprise week end raid. National Indian brotherhood presi Dent Del Riley said fishing nets were being sent from other reserves to enable the micmac to continue fishing six nights a week. He said the. Band had Only about 15 nets in its Possession following Satur Day s raid the second in less than 10 Days. The two raids were launched after the micmac defied Quebec government regulations limiting them to fishing three Days a week. Riley who met for several hours yesterday with Indian affairs minister John Munro and the rest Gouche band Council said the band has also decided to retain night roadblocks at four entry Points to the Reserve. Under seige the Reserve is virtually under seige by the troops of Quebec Premier or. Rene Riley said adding that the roadblocks would remain in place for As Long As the nearest concentration of Provin Cial police in the area is 25 Kilometres away at Matapedia where about 150 members of the tactical squad Are on standby. Micmac band spokesman Michael nation Isaacs told reporters that the blockade would be lifted during Daylight hours and dump trucks borrowed from a Riviere do Loup construction company would be returned. During the first raid 11 men were arrested and several band members were jostled by police. Munro who flew to the rest Gouche Reserve saturday following the police raid rejected a band Council request for Federal Protection from provincial police. Munro said his presence was a form of Federal Protection and the government did not plan to provide ramp or Canadian forces Protection for the band.
