14 Winnipeg free press saturday june study clearly Cloudy Ottawa up a dozen govern ment scientists and technicians Are taking part in a meteorological Experiment to examine the life Cycle of Clouds environment minister John Roberts announced yesterday. The canadians Are among 200 scientists from five countries and 25 research organizations involved in the three month Experiment which began in mid May. The other coun tries Are Britain Italy Switzerland and the United states. Roberts said in a statement the Experiment is one of the most comprehensive Ever held in North America. It is taking place within a radius of Iso Kilometres around Miles City Mont. Scientists Are trying to determine such things As How hailstorms form the correlation Between rain and Hail How thunderstorms organize in a Large system and How severe weather forecasting can be improved. The Experiment involves the use of 17 aircraft eight weather radars 125 satellite linked ground stations and dozens of weather balloons. These will be intensive studies of Cloud types which bring life giving rain to both the Canadian Prairies and the american High Plains Dur ing the the minister said. The canadians Are from the environment department and the National research Council of Canada. Led by Bob Schemenauer they will use a specially equipped twin Otter aircraft and will contribute about towards the Experiment. The project called the co opera Tive convective precipitation Experiment is organized by the . National Centre for atmospheric research and the Bureau of Recla mation of the . Department of the Interior. Meanwhile Roberts attended a slide show yesterday on acid rain in Montreal at Man and his world. Peckford told reporters at the end of the annual conference of Eastern Cana Dian premiers and new England Gover nors that Quebec objections to proposed Federal Energy legislation would not delay future exports of new Power from Labrador s lower Churchill River. The legislation violently opposed by Quebec Premier Rene Levesque who boycotted the two Day conference Here would give Newfoundland the right to Export Power across Quebec.
