Winnipeg Free Press (Newspaper) - September 29, 1981, Winnipeg, Manitoba Winnipeg free september Al vie asked canadians How they would describe the country current enemy the answer we Are the Canadian Petroleum were made up of More than seventy member companies and together we produce about 80 of Canadas Oil and natural All of our member companies Are in the Energy so like most people in were concerned about the country current Energy that concern recently caused us to commission a Canad wide study to see How people Felt about the whole Energy the to put it were this is the actual study commissioned by the Canadian Petroleum it Tola us How canadians feel about Energy questions and about the Oil and Gas what people said the study told us How people feel about the country current Energy it also told us How people feel about Oil Ana Gas the were not entirely canadians told us they found the whole Energy question thoroughly with different kinds of information coming from the Federal from provincial from the Media and from the they said they simply didst know who to they also found it confusing that As an Energy Rich could possibly face Energy for the Canadian Petroleum the confusion surrounding the country Energy situation presented an obvious one that could Best be met through an information program designed to help people understand More about the Oil and Gas aspect of Canadian Iel Polenni association Ken is currently seen in a series of televised ii messages designed to help people Island Mure about the Oil and Gas llpi1 a rude Awakening the second part of our study presented a different kind of canadians told us they we rent much inclined to believe some of the things they heard from the Oil and Gas they told us they thought we were Good at finding and producing Oil and but not very Good at communicating with canadians were almost equally divided on the question of whether to pay More for Oil and Gas to encourage development or to pay less because we have now the new Energy agreement has answered that the study suggested that we cared More about profits than about the that we favoured the West Over other regions of and that there was some doubt about our honesty and sincerity we thought some of the opinions revealed by the study were not entirely but we still found ourselves with a the Canadian Petroleum association and its member companies were Well t equipped to provide accurate and helpful information about the Oil and Gas aspect of the Energy but would people believe us despite our we decided to go this advertisement and others in t magazines and television represent a first step in our information As for honesty and we think people will believe us if we do our Best to provide accurate and helpful its a program from which we Hope everybody will not a a right Canada is not confronted with an imminent Energy although much of the nations crude Oil potential is is an ample Supply of Energy throughout the world and Here in but the new world Oil situation Means higher the column on the left shows Nhat percentage Orrl if of of profits most canadians guess the Oil and it s cd and Gas Industry reinvest in exploration unlikely that Low and i he column on the night i shows the actual percentage of Cash flow will 6 Var reinvested by the Industry last Tulp Issue for canadians is Security of Oil it is possible for Canada to become Oil self sufficient in the years but achievement of that goal will be influenced by decisions made now and in the near at the Canadian Petroleum we believe Oil self sufficiency for Canada is a Challenge that must be met because it is essential to our National but that Challenge Only be met when the majority of canadians agree to the goal and understand the National commitment required of the Canadian Petroleum Energy solutions begin with ;
