native in this Community too Many women Are hit or beaten by their friends or too Many of them do not Call the police in the mistaken belief that they themselves will be embarrassed or the if it is some one they care will be publicly the Community May not be aware that the police and the courts will be a support to women who have the strength to take Legal action against those who assault rather than bruising her Tina keeper stands As a role Model for All women in the Community by having the courage to take the action that she columns in daily such As that of Gordon Sinclair can play an important role by congratulating Tina keeper and by urging All women to Call the police when they have been the foregoing comments Are those expressed by the Winnipeg Safe City whose Man Date is to promote the personal safety and Security of women and children in All areas Over which the City has jurisdiction and to promote Community participation and cooperation in making personal safety and Security a councillor Glen Lena Community Winnipeg Safe City committee double trouble for Cia secretive Agency feels Public humiliation Over spy episode Washington when Aldrich Hazen Ames made a Chalk Mark on the Mailbox at 37th and r streets last telling his Kab paymasters that he would soon meet them in he was in the final stages of a betrayal that has put the secretive Central intelligence Agency in double there Are the potential effects of the Dent made in its reputation at abroad and on Capitol Hill by the fact that senior Cia operative Ames served Moscow for nine betraying and Allied there is the bureaucratic humiliation of being forced this by president Bill to surrender sole control Over the Cias own apparatus for sniffing out spies inside its under terms of presidential decision directive a new counterintelligence policy making reporting to the president through National Security adviser Anthony will set up within 90 Days a National counterintelligence Centre that will be chaired for the first four years by the that humiliation was for Cia director James when he faced his own interrogation before the Senate select committee on intelligence this in a rare Public Woolsey took direct hits from democratic chairman Dennis Deconcini and senior Republican John a furious Deconcini called the Ames episode a disgrace and said he favors a Law to give the Fri control of All counterintelligence Warner told Woolsey that Senate support May grow for a Bill sponsored by new York democratic senator Patrick Moynihan that would abolish the pressure Moynihan wants to give the Cias mole Hunting capabilities to the its analysts to the state department and its Covert operations task to the claiming pressure from Deconcini made an implied threat that the Cias budget May not remain secret for much the of affects Only Ames told the Kab about the staff key morale and strategic targets of the Cia and other such As the defence intelligence a week ago Ames and his Maria Del Rosario Casa pleaded guilty in District court in to conspiracy to commit espionage and tax their 198592 joint tax returns left out the Moscow supplied million that paid for their Hal million Dollar House and swollen Bank accounts in Switzerland and although Ames did not know of her husbands treason until when she found a note with russian writing in his old she then became his spy for last september they attended a Pat meeting together then drove to the Corner of Garfield Street and Garfield near Washington National where he got out and looked for a russian Chalk every move recorded by the clicking cameras of the a week ago Ames was jailed for life without possibility of his wife will be sentenced in a delay designed to keep Ames singing to his Cia and Fri interrogators about exactly what he already known is his responsibility for the arrest of at least 11 soviet military and a handcuffed Aldrich Hazen Ames is escorted into Washington editor David Macdona intelligence officers who had been working for the Cia and Allied Ames disclosed Early on the said the government of sources codenamed a tickle and the Washington Post identified Sta chord As general Dimitri a red ordered Back to Moscow and arrested in the snatched him Back from the Kab and took him to safety in until Ames was the Cia had steadfastly denied to the British secret intelligence service any role in the mysterious betrayal of listening Ames disclosed what the National Security Agency was listening to through its signals intelligence which include those of Canadas communications Security establishment in while stationed in Rome he told the Kab about double agent operations aimed at them and told them which Kab double agent operations in the United states were he betrayed recent Cia recruits Maria Del Rosario Casa Ames is led into doonesbury european Security officer and a soviet one result is Likely to be diminished enthusiasm by foreign nationals for Cia offers of part time potential recruits will have to weigh the risk of a Bullet in the Back of the head or being fed feet first into an electric intelligence organizations in Britain and other Allied countries May hesitate to share with the Cia the names of their Best a reduction in Public Confidence in the Cia is Likely to bring political pressure to make Public the governments annual intelligence estimated by informed sources Here to have been billion in it is also Likely to face new pressure for at the same Congress is Likely to push for fewer closed intelligence hearings and ask for the justification of counter spying and its costly technology in a Post cold War in his arrogant and unrepentant statement to the court after pleading guilty last Ames raised some questions of a kind that have also occurred to some in espionage he said he did not believe that interests had been much damaged or those of the soviet Union or Russia much helped by his he said he had come to believe that espionage was and is a self serving carried out by careerist bureaucrats who have managed to deceive several generations of american policymakers and the Public about both the necessity and the value of their there was no rational need for thousands of Case officers and tens of thousands of agents working around the the espionage he differs hardly at All from Many other Federal having transformed itself into a self serving interest immeasurably aided by one question remains after his Story is if he did so much damage and the Kab Learned so Many Why did the soviet Union collapse instead of the United states by Garry Trudeau i half the atone pm its own ii have family that a ;
