And was the vice chairman of the corporation. As an official Holstein judge for a number of years Theo judged Many shows and fairs. In 1988, Theo received the certificate of Merit from the school of agriculture at University of Manitoba for contributions to Manitoba a agricultural Community. In 1994, the Holtmann Dairy operation was selected for the highest Quality milk award for Manitoba and Rosser holsteins was nominated to compete at the Canadian and North american level most recently Theo was presented the Manitoba Holstein Branch lifetime membership award. Theo was president and member of the Little Britain Schutze Verein and also current president and member of the St Hubertus game and fish association of Winnipeg. He was a member of the German society of Winnipeg thee served on Parish Council and was a trustee at St. Edwards . Henry David Klassen Henry David Klassen passed away peacefully on August 16,1996 at the age of 78, with his family at his Side. Henry was born in the mennonite Village of Steinfeld in the Ukraine on september 20,1917, where he spent his childhood and school years. He graduated from the Odessa German teachers Institute in 1937 and taught history until the second world War interrupted his career. He then worked briefly As a translator. He joined the mass refugee movement Westward in 1943 and eventually arrived in Poland there he met and briefly courted his future wife Ann he was conscripted into the German army in 1944 he saw Brief action in Hungary where he was wounded and was consequently evacuated to a military Hospital in Bavaria. Here he spent the remainder of the War after the War he was reunited with Ann and they were engaged Only to be separated again when he was Given the Opportunity to immigrate to Canada to work in a lumber Camp in Kapuskasing Ontario where he awaited the arrival of his Fiancee he and Ann were married in Grunthal in october of that year and lived their entire married life in Winnipeg. Henry worked for a variety of furniture and implement companies including try sons Ideal brass and Dycks Garden and tool co. And retired in 1983 during his working life Henry also continued his teaching skills through his faithful service As German saturday school teacher for 29 years. His friends and Neighbours also enjoyed Many of his discount haircuts in his basement Barber shop. Henry was an Active member of the North Kildonan and later Springfield Heights mennonite churches servicing As youth Leader choir member and Church Council member and Secretary. He also served on the Westgate mennonite collegiate Board As Secretary. Henry enjoyed socializing and entertaining Many friends and relatives in his Home. In his Early years in Canada he enjoyed playing volleyball swimming holidays at the Lake and carpentry. Throughout his life he was an avid Reader and enjoyed drawing. His Garden was a source of Pride and he looked Forward to the growing season every year. In his later years he rarely missed his tuesday game of billiards or his Friday morning breakfast club. He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for dominoes and cards As Well As for relating Many humorous stories. Opa particularly enjoyed the love and support of his five grandchildren to whom he was devoted and of whom he was fiercely proud. You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace dear husband dad and opa.
