It happened that once the woman and her dog travelled by ship to England and when they were travelling Home somewhere Between England and new England where the woman and her shaggy dog lived the dog disappeared. She called his name and searched As Best she could but he did not return. The woman realized her dog was lost and she became frantic with worry. She decided to place an advertisement in the newspapers her advertisement read like this a lost a very shaggy dog. Big Reward for anyone who finds my shaggy dog. All expenses of the finder will be paid. My dog is a very shaggy the woman attached her address to the advertisement. Well not Long after the advertisement ran in the paper the woman a Doorbell rang. There were White ones and Brown ones and Black ones dogs with pointy ears and floppy ears and sad eyes and Happy eyes. Sometimes when the woman a Doorbell rang she would walk outside and find a line of people standing there and beside each of these people stood another shaggy dog. The woman heard the Doorbell ring and As she ran to the door she could feel her heart pounding with excitement. When she opened the door she saw a Man from England. Neil Evenson lives with his family in Sanford. He attends St. Norbert immersion school. As the flood spread his family had to flee. In the midst of All the turmoil Neil kept a diary which he now shares with us. Also Patricia Doyle of Ecol Lac Erie wrote a poem about the flood. And Cotelle Mackintosh of Luxton school tells of visiting St. Johns Park As the red River Rose rapidly. First Neil a flood a a Friday april 25,1997 after swimming my mom came and got me because we had to Start packing. The reason Why we had to Start packing was we had to move out quickly before the evacuation notice. We stopped at Woodland to buy donuts pizza and drinks for the people who were coming to help us. On the Way into the store i noticed that the parking lot was full of water from the manhole backing up. There was a Man with a pump trying to remove the water from the lot. We knew that some people from my momus work and my cousins were coming but we needed enough food to feed More people because my Cousin arbs and my dads friends family might come. When we got Home my dad was cleaning up the garage because we had received our 24-hour evacuation notice. One of the friends from my momus work and my cousins helped move All the stuff from the basement. My aunt helped me pack my clothes so i was ready to go to my grandparents House in Stony Mountain if i had to go there tonight. My mom received a Call from a stranger who said that her friends from work were in an Accident. My mom ran out to the truck and went to pick them up. They were of but Bettye a car Wasny to. My mom Lent Betty her car to drive because mom was driving grandpas car. By 11 30 our basement looked Bare. We slept in our own Beds for tonight. Vav saturday april 26,1997 dad and i loaded up his truck and headed towards Stony Mountain. When we got Back to the House the water in the Back Yard was flooding the shed. Mom wanted to leave tonight so we would be Safe in Stony Mountain instead of having someone Patricia tragedy of the Century Tell us at the last minute a get out Carol and i packed up the toys that we wanted for our adventure at our grandparents Home. My grandparents Are still in . As they did no to want to come Home to Snow or water. We Are in their House now so grandma and grandpa would have to live in their motor Home anyway. My aunt Uncle and cousins came to help us pack up the last things we needed. We loaded food and our Freezer into the truck so we could stay for a while at our grandparents House. A Vav sunday april 27,1997 Carol and i stayed at grandma and grandpas and put away All our stuff. We got our bikes out of the garage not knowing that we locked the door when we shut it and went for lunch to the restaurant. After lunch Carol and i Rode Home and Carol tried to open the front door with the keys mom had Given her but they did no to work. The keys opened the first garage door so we played catch until the lady next door came Home. The lady had a key to grandma and grandpas House so we could get inside. A v v monday april 28,1997 mom took Carol and i to the Stony Mountain school to see if we could go to school there while we were staying in our grandparents House. They said yes definitely we could Atten Cotelle water rising fest their school. I wanted to go with Carol and mom Back to . To see m. Marcoux so he would know where i would be going to school. Carol and i got All our books so we could do some of our own work while attending Stony Mountain school. We drove to Sanford and video taped our town and All the army personnel in our town. Mom had called work and found out they needed help at one of the stores so she went Home to pick up her uniform. Carol and i went to Stony Mountain to school in the afternoon. I met some friends that i played with after school. It will be Nice to ride my Bike to school and come Home for lunch instead of taking the bus and eating lunch at school. Dad was going Back to our House in Sanford when he heard on the radio that Sanford was to evacuate by tuesday at 8 . I was Riding my Bike around town when dad told me to go Home. When i got there he and mom had to go to Sanford to get the rest of our stuff. A v v tuesday april 29,1997 i did no to have a Good Day at school. The French teacher yelled because i corrected him. I did no to mean to be mean. I was just trying to help. I met a girl named Sabrina and we went to her House after school to play Sega. We came Back to my place and played catch in the backyard. After a while Brice and Tyler came to play catch with v v wednesday april 30,1997 after school Carol and i went to music. Cubs was cancelled because St. Norbert had also been v v thursday May 1,1997 in school we built towers out of newspaper. My groups Tower was the first standing but Only until we added a platform at the top and then it fell Down. I came Home from school and mom was driving up because we had to go skating. Just As we were leaving our skating coach called and said she was sick so she be at the rink. We decided not to go skating so i went outside to Dilano a House. Dilan is from St. Norbert and i know him from cubs. After supper Sabrina Dilan Tyler and i played catch. At 8 . Tyler invited me to go to a Bonfire at his House to meet some people. Dad and i went on our bikes to Tyler a House. Tyler and i jumped off the second floor Balcony to the ground. We found a piece of Copper pipe and hit rocks with the pipe and sent them Over the big mud Hill onto the Neighbours roof. It was late but i ate 3 More marshmallows then dad said it was time to go at to . I really had fun meeting new people. Carol had gone to the school to help with the Light in the drama play. She was Home before dad and i and was talking with Alexis after the play. A v v Friday May 2,1997 i went to school not feeling Well and the teacher Felt my head and neck and said it Felt Clammy. The teacher called my mom and said Lisa was willing to take me Home because i Wasny to feeling Well. Mom came Home after lunch. Mom and i slept in the afternoon for a while. After supper i went to Sabrina a House to play sidewalk Chalk. After we played with Caps then Sabrina had to go in the House. I biked Over to Dilano a House and got in a tangle with a girl and she took my Bike. Mom and i went Back so i could get my Bike and i said i was sorry to the girl. A v v saturday May 3,1997 i went to the rink to skate in the morning. After skating i went to violin for my group lesson. I also had to practise with the piano teacher for my recital piece. After music mom dad Carol and i went to the children a museum. It was free to All families who have been evacuated by the flood. Later we went to a movie where dad and i saw Jungle to Jungle and mom and Carol saw that old feeling. Carol wanted to go to a chinese restaurant to eat after the movie. We had a Good time today. A v v sunday May 4,1997 today we All went to the Winnipeg Art gallery. We saw the Art work and i really liked the work by Wanda Koop. I made some things upstairs in the family room and we got cookies to take Home afterwards. We went to another movie this time we All saw the same movie. We saw Mchaley a Navy it was very funny a Neil Evensong a a the flood i Hope that the houses will not be lost. We will rebuild everything that we lost. It is a tragedy of the Century. We must be in a hurry to evacuate the towns. I Wake up in the morning. I think it is a bad dream. It is not a fairy tale. It is real life. A Patricia Doyle 9 Ecol Lacerte a a St. Johns Park on Friday we went to the Park. The water was up to the Willows and scottish thistles. Today my mom and brother drove there and the water was Over the new walking Bridge by the Field. Since the water is up to there now we still have 2 weeks until the flood Crest and the water is rising so quickly. My family might end up having to evacuate.
