An international police task
force has released an updated photograph and list of aliases for a U.S. anti-abortion extremist believed to have information on five unsolved sniper attacks on doctors.
Winnipeg police Insp. Keith McCaskill, the task force?Ts spokesman, said yesterday the latest photograph of James Charles Kopp, taken sometime in 1996, shows a smiling fully-bearded man with glasses.
?oIt certainly does look different,? McCaskill said, referring to an earlier photograph released by police with a shorter beard and no glaisses.
But McCaskill said the public should be aware Kopp may have changed his appearance in recent weeks.
Three of the shootings have occurred in Canada, including last year?Ts Remembrance Day wounding of Dr. Jack Fa in man in his St. Vital home.
McCaskill also said the investigation has revealed that Kopp may be using aliases he has used in the past, including Clyde Swenson, Jim Cobb, Jack Cotty, and Jack Crotty.
But McCaskill stressed once again ?"as members of the task force have said for weeks since Buffalo-area abor-
Kopp in 1996 (left) aD,d earlier.
tion provider Dr. Barnett Slepian was murdered last month that police are seeking Kopp to question him and he is
not being sought as a suspect.
Kopp is wanted in Canada on an immigration warrant.
The 44-year-old Kopp is described as 5-11,155 to 170 lbs., with blue eyes and brown hair. His last known address was in St. Albans, Vermont, and he has two vehicles registered, a 1987 black coloured Chevrolet Cavalier, Vermont licence number B'PE216, which was spotted near Slepian's Amherst, New York home in the weeks preceding the shooting, and a 1977 green Dodge Aspen, licence number BFN595.
The task force is urging anyone with information to call its tip line at either 1-877-687-3377 in Canada or 1-8(MF281-1184 in the U.S. and Canada.

Ex-AECL staff taps fund for job creation
Former Manitoba aecl employees have created two new companies with $274,000 in loans from Ottawa and the province.
.Acsion Industries Inc. and G.ra.nite Internet Services Inc. will create 18 full-time jobs in the Whiteshell area, which has been hard hit by the scaling down of AECL?Ts research facility in Pinawa.
Manitoba Industry Minister Jim Dowmey said the companies are the first to receive funding under the $20 million Whiteshell Economic Development Assistance Initiative.
?oThese are the sort of initiatives we?Tve been aiming for because they?Tre creating jobs and expanding the economic base of the area,? he said.
Acsion Industries Inc. has purchased the assets of AECL?Ts electron beam processing technology, which is used in aerospace parts repair, rayon fibre production and converting hog waste into fertilizer, Acsion has $1.2 million in orders, and will create 14 jobs over the next three years. The company was loaned $200,000 from \VEDA.
Meanw?Thile, Granite Internet Services will open sites in Pinawa, Lac du Bonnet and Whitemouth to provide local dial ups for web users. The company will create four jobs over three years, and has been, loaned $74,250.
The WE DA was created in 1997, following AECL?Ts decision to commercialize its laboratories. The agreement is designed to help establish new high-tech companies.
