It was a really total commitment from the entire Community newly installed president Lloyd Axworthy told an ebullient crowd at a Community picnic wednesday. Axworthy said the surplus on a budget of about $72 million resulted primarily from Tough spend ing controls and the Bonanza of huge enrolment increases in recent years. Enrolment was up 7.77 per cent this past sep tember pumping a Windfall of $1.8 million beyond budget forecasts into the University scoffers. Meanwhile Axworthy said u of w has decentralized its management Structure so that individual Deans and department Heads were responsible for stringent spending controls. Half the $2.9 million will be used to begin replenishing the University a empty Reserve funds and half will be spent on vital equipment and other Pur chases deferred when u of w drastically tightened its Belt. That a Money that can go ahead to the future of this University Axworthy said. We have to meet a lot of new challenges.
