Across Winnipeg tens of thousands of catholics yesterday remembered and prayed for the Pope who died saturday. Massie led a few minutes of prayer at the end of each mass at his Church yesterday. He really was a charismatic character Massie said after the service. He represented the Best in humanity. The world will miss him. It would be great to see the Pope continue the tradition of reaching out to the Young As this holy father has done said Neil Mccarthy of the office of Catholic youth of Toronto. St. Ignatius will hold a special memorial service thursday at 7 30 p. M. At St. Paul the apostle Church in St. James father Mark Tarrant was surprised when parishioners knocked on his door saturday night. Ism one of the few parishes that does not have saturday night masses. People came to the door and said father youve got to open the Church a Tarrant said. Yesterday there was phenomenal attendance for two morning masses he said. The reaction has been quite amazing. There is a sadness too. Tarrant opened his Church from 1 to 7 p. M. Yesterday for anyone who wanted to come in and join prayers culminating at 7 p. M. With the Liturgy of the hours a special prayer said whenever a member of the Church Dies. Particular passages will be inserted for the holy father he said. Massie said that people often forget that the Popes Job primarily in the Church is to keep order. You have to have someone put the brakes on. Head get people ticked off and Yourd still respect him and love him. Rev. Darrin Gurr said he planned a moment of silence yesterday at a service for catholics in Whyte Ridge Linden Ridge and Linden Woods.
