They pushed him around. I never said one word. He never talked to anyone people thought he was stuck up. They made fun of him but still i did not say one word. They hid his shorts in gym class stole his glasses in the morning. I did not say one word. I could see How he Felt i knew he wanted a Friend someone to talk to. But i never talked to him never said one word to him head ask the time of Day and i would ignore him embarrassed. I never spoke one word. One Day he did not come to school we pretended not to notice. He did not come the next Day or the next. I did not say one single word. Then the teachers finally told us. He had committed suicide. I did not say one word. A week later i saw them picking on another kid and i finally said something. I said one word. Stop and it made All the difference. Gordon. Sinclair free press. My. Ca film studio continued from Page b 1 critics have assailed the Purchase As corporate welfare and an overpriced government bailout. Thorsteinson a real estate Developer and the president of Prairie production Centre has not returned phone Calls. Asper the executive vice president of can West global communications whose company dare Max enterprises Ltd. Was a limited partner in the studio said he believes All proceeds from the Sale Are going to pay debts. None is going to his company he said. Robinson has said continued existence of the studio is critical to Manitoba ass ability to compete with other provinces As a venue for shooting films. The film Industry cites studies that say each $ 1 spent producing a movie in Manitoba generates $ 13 in economic spinoffs. Tory culture critic Jack Reimer said it was misleading for the province to state the Purchase Price As $ 1.78 million. Thatus ludicrous Reimer said. Were looking at a total expense of $ 3 million for a business thatus shown it cant survive. Those Are All dollars that could be Well spent in other areas Paul. Egan free press. My. Ca firefighters continued from Page b 1 if i die i want to make sure my wife and family is taken care of. It would be one less thing id have to worry about he said of the anticipated new Bill. Debbie Woodman 51, lost her husband a year ago april 22 from the same kind of Colon cancer that Wayne has. Nothing is what she says she got in compensation for her husbands death because it a snot recognized As being linked to his work. Jim gave his life. And he died far too Young. Now i feel at least he wont have died in vain Woodman said. As Early As last july Premier Gary doer indicated he was looking seriously at amending workers compensation Laws to give benefits for the additional kinds of cancer and for heart disease. In 2002, Manitoba became the first jurisdiction in Canada to recognize the scientifically proven connection Between exposure to carcinogens while fighting fires and certain types of cancer. That year the legislature unanimously passed a Bill within two Short months. Alexandra. Paul free press. My. Ca Nelson continued from Page b 1 the statements made Are so ludicrous they dont Merit any comments he said. Other councillors at City Hall were offended by Nelsons letter and questioned whether the City should still be in discussions with the chief about the St. Boniface site. We would be willing to talk to first nations about what an Urban Reserve is about but if hers the Guy they Send i dont think we have to. I think we Are obligated almost not to said St. Boniface coun. Franco Magnifico. Transcona coun. Russ Wyatt called Nelsons comments outrageous and completely unacceptable. If this individual is representing these kind of values and views you have to be asking the question Why Are we doing business with him he said. Just because you hang a sign on the door that says open for business does not mean you have to do business with everybody. Coun. Peter de Smedt defended katzes position saying City Hall should Only look at the Merit of Nelsons proposal. Hers not representing himself in this proposal hers proposing it on behalf of his Community. The Bunai brith league for human rights has accused Nelson of scapegoating jews and spreading anti semitism. Yesterday Provencher my Vic Toews also spoke out saying Nelsons comments were an affront to the jewish people. In an interview yesterday from san Diego where hers at a conference on gaming Nelson said Katz is doing the right thing. I do applaud Sam Katz. Thatus what we need people who will actually sit Down and talk to us he said. It angers me that every time we speak out or do something As first nation people the first thing they try and do is punish us saying you Arentt going to get the Urban Reserve you re not going to get gaming you re not going to get this or that. Ahenakew a former head of the Assembly of first nations and a member of the order of Canada is charged under the criminal code of Canada with wilful promotion of hatred. In a published interview two years ago he called jews a disease and suggested the holocaust was justified. Nelson insists hers not defending Athena Kewus views and says people have overreacted to his letter. The jewish Community needs to reflect on his accusations instead of accusing him of anti semitism he said. Nelson also defended his comments about police officers saying that theress a denial in Winnipeg of police brutality toward native people. The Assembly of Manitoba chiefs wants to partner with Roseau River to build a new aboriginal legislative Assembly on the site but a spokesman refused to comment on Nelsons statements yesterday or the Impact it might have on the proposal. Nelson is no stranger to controversy. He was found guilty in 1997 to illegally keeping gaming equipment. He travelled to Iraq in 1998 to attack in sanctions against Saddam Hussein. Last june Nelson offered free gasoline to entice band members to vote. Patti. Edgar free press. My. Ca by Alexandra Paul a significant figure in Manitoba ass labour history died yesterday.
