The tension started last week when a Young Man and woman got on an after noon bus in West Winnipeg and the Dri ver questioned whether the Man had paid enough fare. During the ride the Man threatened the Driver and swore at him according to Union president Keith Scott. By the time the bus reached the end of the line the two passengers who had watched the dispute unfold had gotten off. The bus Driver was alone with the Young pair when the upset Man attacked him and the Driver was forced to fend him off Scott said. When Winnipeg transit initially found out about the confrontation it suspended the Driver without pay. I think to suspend someone without pay pending investigation is undue hard ship said Scott. Especially since in my opinion the individual was defending himself. He was just checking the fares.
