The Sunshine fund has helped More than 17,000 Manitoba children and youths from Low income families go to summer Camp since 1979. It relies on donations so it can continue giving kids a Chance to have fun at summer Camp. Our goal is to hit the 600 to 650 Mark with sending children to Camp says Bryan Zako executive director of the Manitoba camping association which operates the Sunshine fund. So far in 2006, it has placed 526 children and youth in More than 30 summer Camps across the province. We have one month to go and there is still lots of room for kids to go to Camp he says. Zako says donations have been very Good so far this year. To Date the Sunshine fund has raised $ 127,712, mostly through individual Reader donations. He estimates the fund will need $ 35,000 to $ 40,000 More in order to Send an additional 75 to 125 campers by the end of next month. Parents interested in applying to the Sunshine fund for those remaining Camp spots should do so in the next couple of weeks Zako says. They just dont love taking the bus to get to it. A 2001 bylaw bans skateboarding on most major sidewalks leading to the Forks including Portage Avenue main Street and Broadway. That Means Many boarders cant easily skate to the world class skate Park. If they do they risk running afoul of the downtown Biz patrols who often try to shoo skateboarders off sidewalks. Bikes and rollerblade and kids on scooters dont get hassled but we do said Boarder Shane Isfeld 16. We can Only skate half the year so it makes it even worse. Its Bull. Isfeld cant skate on most major routes from his River Heights Home to the Forks including Corydon Broadway and Portage Avenue. He said most skateboarders ignore the rules and just Brace for hassles from bylaw officers and Biz foot patrols. Five years ago the City amended its traffic bylaw to ban skateboarding on certain Busy sidewalks downtown including Portage Avenue main Street and Broadway. Three years ago the City of Vancouver relaxed its ban and allowed skateboarding on All sidewalks and on minor roadways. A report to City Hall a year later said the new rules created no problems.
