They told me i cant just come up to Canada and get married. They not Only screwed up our lives they have screwed up our future because now it is going to be hard for Bill to Cross the Border All the time. Both of them have crossed the Border often Over the years. Bill who works in the Industrial Supply business but is currently on disability said last september he flew to the u. S. With a one Way ticket and was not delayed. The two have not decided where they plan to live permanently together but neither has a criminal record and neither has Ever been denied Access at the Border. Well work it out Brown said about where they eventually Settle Down. But i Felt like i was treated like a criminal. I just cant believe u. S. Officials can treat Canadian citizens that Way on our own soil. According to Mike Milne a Public affairs official with u. S. Customs and Border Protection in Seattle its agents Are located in Canadian airports for the convenience of Canadian travellers. He said the departments agents do have the discretion to deny entry to the u. S. To people who they believe intend to remain in the u. S. Illegally. But a traveller who is refused entry can always represent themselves at the port perhaps with further documentation that will show that the traveller is not planning to move to the u. S. Illegally Milne said. They might want to touch base with a u. S. Consulate to double Check what other documents they might need but they could definitely try to make their Case again. He said anyone who feels they were mistreated can follow a complaint process. But if there is an individual who just married a u. S. Citizen and has a one Way ticket it is up to the individual officer to make a determination based on the circumstances in front of him at the time Milne said. Maybe it might mean someone is trying to avoid immigrating through the Normal channels. He also acknowledged that the recent airline terrorist scare in London England has put customs agents at a heightened level of caution. Both Bill and Diane Are writing letters of complaint to their elected officials and they Are Busy accessing forms from the customs and Border Protection website that they Hope will Clear the Way for them to travel Back and Forth without getting hassled each time. We have been through a lot and we just want to be together Brown said. Were not criminals. Brown spoke with an official from the office of Steven Fletcher the conservative my in Browns Riding which is also the Riding where the Winnipeg Airport is located. An official from Fletcher is office said this is a matter Brown has to take up with american officials. Martin. Cash free press. My. Ca Puppy heist continued from Page b 1 sure enough the to mans daughter answered the phone and told Rowson two Black puppies with pushed in faces were for Sale. Rowson confirmed their address and rallied her friends for backup. Neighbour Tammy Zielke who had seen the dog Napper flee into a getaway vehicle parked on the North end Street offered to help Rowson. Zielke along with St. Amant co worker Kym Putnam headed to the apartment address of the alleged dog thief. With Rowson hiding off to the Side Zielke banged on the to mans apartment door. When it opened an angry Zielke barged in on an illegal Puppy transaction. The woman was in the midst of handing Over Little Razz to another owner for $ 250. I said you cant buy this Puppy its stolen a Zielke said noting she immediately grabbed the Puppy. The woman phoned police claiming she was being assaulted. But when officers arrived on the scene they arrested the woman for theft. Police soon located the other missing Puppy in the apartment and the duo returned to their litter mates cookie and cuddles and mom Berry. John Rowson Barbaraus husband said one officer told him the woman allegedly has a track record of hoisting pups and even shipped one to b. C. It was a snatch and run he said. Rowson plans on keeping a close Eye on her scampering pups when the next interested buyer comes around. If someone comes in the House now the door is locked she said. Were not doing this again. A police spokesman last night could not confirm the identity of the woman who is charged with theft. Jen. Skerritt free press. My. Ca by Jason Bell b Oating deaths across the country Are on the decline although an accidental death on Lake Minnedosa Over the weekend is a sad reminder that tragedies can still occur. Brandon resident Karl Crofton 44, was rushed to Hospital and later died of his injuries after being struck by the boat that was pulling him on a tube. Ramp in Minnedosa said no charges will be Laid. It is Likely the first confirmed tubing fatality in the province. A former president of the water ski association of Manitoba said sunday the fatal Accident highlights the need for tougher boat safety regulations. But an official with transport Canada said boating deaths have been dropping since 1999 when new regulations were introduced for Canadian recreational boaters. We were averaging 200 fatalities per boating season and those numbers Are Down to 150 or less since 1999, said Stephen Sherburne manager of the office of boating safety for the Prairies and Northern Region. Thatus telling us the program is having some Success. But theress still More work to do to increase recreational boaters knowledge of what to look for when they take to the water the rules made it mandatory for All boat operators born after april 1, 1983 and All boaters operating watercraft under four metres in length to pass a safety course to obtain a pleasure Craft operators card. So far Between 1.6 million to two million Canadian boaters have their cards. All other boaters Are required to get their cards by september 2009. The program was phased in Over a 10 year period because of the High number of boaters who were required to receive their safety credentials. This was not something we could implement in one year Sherburne said. He said transport Canada is constantly watching National trends to see How elements to the safety program can be tweaked. But he said tubing accidents to Date have not been cause for any additional concern. Jason. Bell free press. My.
