Since fighting Between rebels the sudanese army and a militia of Arab nomads began in 2003, some 200,000 peo ple have died in Darfur and 2.5 million have been displaced. The mass Media has described the conflict As ethnic cleansing and africans in Winnipeg watching the Cri Sis in Darfur fear conflicts in Afghanistan Iraq and now North Korea Are overshadowing the suffering in Sudan. Suliman who fled Darfur six years ago said he believes the worlds Atten Tion should be focused on the atrocities of his Homeland. We Are calling for the International Community to help these people he said. There Are people dying every Day and nobody is taking care of them. They Are homeless with no food no Access to education for the children no health services and no clean Suliman who is taking science courses at the u of a fled Darfur after refusing to join the sudanese army. The youngest of seven children he was the Only one in his family to leave Sudan. His father who had worked for the ministry of education in the sudanese capital of Khartoum was imprisoned for his sons refusal to join the army. He died of cancer shortly after being released from jail. Sudan has sent threatening letters to Canada and other countries it believes could join a United nations Force being planned for Darfur. The government in Khartoum warned earlier this month that it would consider any move to join the Force a hostile act ? a statement Mili tary experts say is tantamount to a threat to wage War on the in troops. Prime minister Stephen Harper has said Canadas military commitment in Afghanistan Means there is Little Chance of deployment elsewhere.
