ramp investigate death ramp in Portage la Prairie and the Canadian National railways police Are investigating the death of a 52-year-old Man after he was hit by a westbound train monday afternoon at an uncontrolled crossing outside Portage. Ramp said tuesday the mishap occurred North of provincial Highway 331 and Road 28 West just before 1 . The victims name is being withheld pending notification of his family. Three outstanding Manitoba cadets received the prestigious Hubbell award Given out annually to Canadian youths who show leadership physical fitness Good citizenship and Community support. Ryan Palmquist Jennifer Mccall and hark Iran Phillion were presented with the awards at a ceremony at 17 Wing Winnipeg recently. Palmquist is a student at the univer sity of Winnipeg while Mccall is a first year student at the University of Manitoba. Phillion attends Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. The three cadets also received monetary bursaries. Police believe a Man killed monday night at Ellice Avenue and King Edward Street jumped in front of the South bound vehicle police said tues Day. The Accident happened shortly before 6 30 . When a 25 year old Man was driving a Mazda mx-3 South on King Edward through the intersection at Ellice. Police said the Driver had the Green Light. Police said it appears the pedestrian ran out in front of the Mazda from a parking lot on the West Side of King Edward. He was hit by the car and flipped Over its Hood to land on the Road sur authorities were still trying to identify him tuesday. 2 men in custody two men remain in custody charged with multiple offences in connection to a car crash monday night at Selkirk Avenue and Salter Street police said tuesday. A 36-year-old Man and a 40-year-old Man Are jointly charged with danger Ous driving causing bodily harm and flight from police. One Man is also charged with Dri ving without a licence. New coat old Colour for legislature the Manitoba legislature is having its colours done. A group of historical building experts descended on the 87-year-old building monday to determine what the original paint colours were on the buildings Inte rior Walls. By the end of the Winter those find Ings will be on display for All to see when the second floor hallways and All the stairwells Are repainted. The intention is to investigate bring ing it Back to its original Colour said Bregje Kozak a program manager in Manitoba infrastructure. Kozak said the buildings hallways Haven to been painted in More than two decades. To find out the colours the experts yesterday scraped layers of paint away from Crown mouldings in the Southeast corridor of the building. Those samples will be sent to a Laboratory where com Puter programs will determine the Actu Al Shade. Other computer programs will then be used to match that Shade to current paint products said Kozak. The estimated Cost for the analysis and the painting is $100,000. Work should be completed by March 2007. The painting is part of regular maintenance of the building said Kozak. It is the latest in a series of repairs and restoration projects for the Manitoba governments Home. The most notable one in recent Mem Ory was the $7-million fix to the build Ings dome roof and the Golden boy completed in 2002. Earlier this year four statues and monuments on the grounds of the legislative building underwent repairs. Thompson oks financial statements the City of Thompsons new Council met tuesday night and approved its 2005 audited financial statements ? four months after they were due. Mayor Tim Johnston said the missing financial statements were an Issue Dur ing the recent municipal election Campaign. The audited financial statements Are supposed to be approved by Council and forwarded to the province by june 30,? Johnston said. Johnston a one term councillor who won the mayors race when Long time mayor Bill Comaskey did not seek re election said staffing shortages in the finance department were responsible for the delay adding the new Council is determined to ensure the City administration has the proper staff to carry out their responsibilities. Chief administrative officer Lynn Tay Lor said Thompson has been without a treasurer for More than a year and the assistant treasurer suddenly quit last february and want replaced until the end of july.
