He died of leukaemia before he finished those studies but friends and family want to help other students who struggle with the financial Burden of trying to continue learning while ill. Hartung was 24 and studying at Mont realms Concordia University when he was diagnosed and admitted to Hospital for aggressive treatment. He succumbed to his illness on june 18 at age 26. The political science student inspired those around him with his stubborn refusal to give up his goals through two and a half years of intense treatment. Damons sister Yasmin Hartung 23, said the Damon Hartung award will be Given annually to a Concordia University student with a similar spirit to her Brothers. The initial goal is to raise $ 10,000. He wanted to Start a scholarship for students who were dealing with an illness or had overcome an illness Yasmin said describing the financial Strain endured by her brother and others living on disability assistance.
