Instead dad jumped on the first adventurous ticket out of town. He joined the ramp and went to Regina for training. Almost 60 years later dad still thinks of his time in Regina fondly. He was tickled Pink when he found out the Gumbo in my Garden Here in Winnipeg is the same sort of Black Clay he used to scrape off his boots in Saskatchewan. Thatus just the sort of expression dad would use too tickled Pink. Other famous dad isms the whole fan family and faster than a term of hurtles. If you think i have a warped sense of Humour blame my father. As a child he exposed me to far too Many episodes of Wayne and Shust Erand Hee Haw. I remember Hee Haw quite fondly not for the picking and a grinning but for the Shade of red my dads ears would turn As he Shook with laughter on the Couch. Dads ears Are sizable. If you saw them glow red just once Yourd remember them. Santa could use dads ears to Lead the Way instead of Rudolphus nose As Long As he kept him laughing. I once held that photo next to a picture of me and realized dad and i have the exact same Bone Structure. I have momus eyes and momus ears there is a go but other than that i look like dad. We not Only look alike dad and i Are very similar people. I did not inherit his temper thankfully but i do share his sensitivity. Dad and i Are both marshmallows. Ism actually a bit less sentimental than he is. My dad went to a one room schoolhouse in Small town p. E. I. If you Ever taught my dad went to school with him or lived near him if you even knew someone who lived near him chances Are hers dropped in to visit you. I used to hate it when my dad would drag me visiting. Wed Stop in to Chat with people he Hadnot seen in decades. As a kid i dreaded these visits. As an adult i treasure their memory. They were a slice of what used to be when people took the time to pay their respects to elders and acquaintances. Its Lovely that dad remembers everyone. There was a time i did not think dad remembered me. I know i wanted to forget him. He and my Mother had separated in a breakup so Long and torturous that by the end of it none of us had any self esteem left. I was a devastated adolescent and then a bitter teenager furious at my father for leaving. We barely spoke for a decade. I did not want to talk to him. He did not know what to say to me. Ism not sure what happened to put my relationship with my father Back together but i consider the Friendship we have now one of the Best things about growing older. Maybe it was just time and distance giving me the ability to see my parents not just As my parents but As human beings stumbling though life like the rest of us doing the Best they can. Dad did not intend to Hurt any of us. Leaving went against everything he believed in. Ironically it was his commitment to his family that kept pulling him Back to us and ultimately made the whole mess harder. It would have been easier if head cared less. Life seemed More Cut and dried when i was a kid. Cleaner. The older i get the More i realize relationships Are Messy and Sticky like Good old Prairie Gumbo. I cant change the past and neither can he.
