I need More sleep and i tend to feel like ism working Way More hours. A new statistics Canada study based on 2005 data is focusing on the work life balance woes of canadians who dont follow the 9 to 5 grind at least not regularly. Roughly 28 per cent of Canadian workers or 4.1 million people Are involved in some form of shift work. And the majority Are full time. Most work rotating or irregular shifts which the study says Are among the most difficult because of their effects on health and sleep patterns and also because of the problem of arranging child care. There Isnit a nurse that does not feel some sort of tension when you re getting your childrens schedules at school and the first thing you do is try to overlap All of them on your work rotations said Sadler. Across the Board shift workers tend to be less Happy with their work life balance and spend less time with their spouses. They also complain More about role overload cutting Back on sleep to get work done constantly under stress and feeling As if theress not enough time for family friends or fun. While 23 per cent of regular Day workers we rent Happy with their work life balance in 2005, 29 per cent of shift workers Felt the same. Four per cent More shift workers than regular Day workers complained about role overload and five per cent More shift workers worried about not spending enough time with family. The study did discover a link Between predictable scheduling and satisfaction those who have rotating shifts like Sadler were As Likely to be Happy with their work life balance As Day workers. The findings Are important because from a work life balance Point of View we have an aging society said Cara Williams the projects senior researcher. Along with older canadians seeking More balanced lives a younger generation of employees is expecting the same balance Between work and Home life earlier in their careers she said. Its an Issue for everybody. The results of the study dont Surprise Winnipeg labour Council president Larry Pelzer a retired bus Driver and maintenance staffer for Winnipeg transit. Ca infighting in the Rural municipality of Lac Dubonnet Council triggered a controversial municipal by election wednesday the latest round in a bitter Duel of complaints Between local politicians. In june Lac Dubonnet Council voted to disqualify Don Halbert from his position As Reeve after he was off on sick leave for More than two months. Experiencing Chest pain and undergoing medical tests Halbert missed four Council meetings. At the fourth meeting held june 10, a motion to Grant Halbert extended leave failed forcing Council to disqualify him As Reeve under Section 94 1 of the municipal act. Rick Lussier and Gus Wruck Are now running for Reeve and three others Are running for the vacant Council seat left by Wruck. Halbert had been Reeve since 2006, when he was acclaimed to office. I think the reason it happened is that it was seen As an Opportunity to get me out of the Way Halbert said. Two weeks after his disqualification the doctor gave Halbert a clean Bill of health to enable him to return to work. But the by election for August had already been triggered. Halbert complained about his disqualification to the provincial ombudsman is office and the matter is being investigated he said. The controversy did not end there. Recently Halbert was asked to provide advice to the Brightstone Hutt Erite Colony for wednesdays by election. I was asked for my recommendation Halbert said. They asked me who i thought would be Good Council members. Halbert wrote a letter to the Colony. The Lac Dubonnet Leader reported that in the letter Halbert endorsed Lussier for Reeve and Doug Marks for the Council seat and criticized councillors Don Sikora and Wruck for voting for his removal. A complaint was filed with the ramp about the letter Halbert said but he did not know who did that or what the complaint entailed. Under the elections act it is illegal to make a false statement of fact about a candidates character or conduct for the purpose of influencing the election. But a Crown attorney told him the complaint would not proceed As it had no Merit Halbert said. Lussier was elected Reeve Over Wruck 759 votes to 357. Vera Cardinal took the Council seat with 623 votes. Will. Tremain free press. My.
