S o youve made sure every ones sneakers still fit purchased those All important hoodies jeans and backpacks and driven the kids to the doctor dentist and hair Salon. Even though there might be some frantic last minute Supply shopping going on this weekend we parents should be pretty much ready for the first Day of school by now. But How ready Are we All for the first Day of Homework after school activities play dates and your Childs crushing first spat with a Best Friend getting kids ready for school is Paramount for parents in these last Days of summer. But just As important is getting our Homes ready for the Day those backpacks come Home full of assignments and textbooks and requests to go Here there and everywhere dominate dinner table discussions. Its about to get hectic parents and you probably did not need me to Tell you that. But How about some solid pointers to help keep All of our Heads above water in this first stretch of the new school year. Get corked every family needs a functional bulletin Board in the Kitchen or front hallway to display Art work projects and an oversized Calendar that keeps track of the flurry of activities that Are on the schedule of a modern Day family with growing children. And while some parents store everything including pictures and Daybook on their computers these Days there really is no replacement for a paper family organizer one with enough room to add in appointments and game changes at a moments notice. Wall mounted White boards Are also great for leaving important notes to family members and unlike Sticky notes cant get lost under a pile of mail. Its also a Good idea to review or at least highlight new additions to the Calendar like birthday parties school events and family outings weekly. A Quick glance at a Well managed communal Calendar should keep everyone in your family informed about the happenings that Impact the members of your household reducing stress and uncertainty for All. Hide and seek put away summer toys clothing and gear making room for heavier fall clothing school supplies and breathing space for Homework and family activities. Reduce reuse and Recycle used clothing and supplies from older siblings purging desktops closets and playrooms of unwanted items that will clutter Little minds trying to Start the year off on the right foot. September is also a Good time to put on a garage Sale or have unwanted clothing and household items collected at your Doorstep by various worthy charities. Less is More please take it As coming from a seasoned schoolteacher when i say kids Are doing Way too Many activities these Days. If your weeknights Are typically spent busing a pack of bushed kids Back and Forth from one Quality after school program to the next its probably time to re evaluate your family is priorities. Yes its Nice for your kids to experience music team sports and school clubs but its also Nice to eat dinner around a table spend some downtime with friends or a family pet and learn to appreciate the Merit of spending some quite time at Home. No one can Tell you How Many activities Are too Many for your family but keeping the after school roster to a minimum will give your children something to look Forward to without running everyone in your House ragged. House rules dont wait too Long to review what is expected of your kids once those worksheets Start coming Home. If feeding the fish walking the dog and tidying rooms Are something that your kids Are expected to do despite the introduction of new activities and Homework this is a Good time to make those intentions known. With your kids input get out a pen and Start scratching out who does what when and consider rotating chores among children to keep things fresh. Theress no better Way to teach your children time management techniques than by modelling these Good Behaviours yourself so make sure mom and dads chores including paying Bills and emptying the dishwasher Are also listed on your family is chore list. Keep routines simple tidying rooms before school Homework before dinner and allow your kids to share their ideas As to How much to and Telephone use is both fair and appropriate. Kids Are always More Likely to respect the rules if they themselves helped make them. Making cent s As kids reach a responsible age and we parents All have our own magic number in mind its logical and admirable for them to want to earn a few dollars babysitting or working part time so they can buy the things they really want. Establishing limits like How Many hours you Are comfortable with them working before your teenagers get after school jobs is not Only doing your kids a big favour but also their prospective employer who knows ahead of time that your children Are not allowed to work on school nights and cannot be scheduled after a certain time in the evening. If you would like to share a great kid Friendly family oriented activity or program with Winnipeg parents please e mail Demetra at Yahoo. Ca is your House ready to head Back to school parents and the City Demetra Hadidiacos getting the kids in the classroom is just one part of the transition from summer vacation to your family is Back to school routine.
