A Community that is age Friendly strives to serve people of All Ages including seniors in the Best possible ways. A tool kit is available online at wow. Gov. My. Ca age Friendly to help people get started. In order to become an age Friendly Community a Community must set up an advisory Council create an action plan and follow through with it. The plan will include ways the Community will adopt immediately and through the Long term to better engage and serve its senior members. Basic funding is also offered to help. Age Friendly communities is an International initiative of the world health organization. In Manitoba the movement started with the Public health Agency of Canada and the Centre on aging in 2007, As Portage la Prairie became the first Manitoba age Friendly City one of 80 original age Friendly cities around the world. The age Friendly Manitoba Community initiative was officially launched in february 2008 in Portage la Prairie. Since that time Gimli and 10 additional Manitoba communities have joined the Effort and More Are planning to do so. We Are a Leader in Canada says Patti Chiappetta director of seniors and healthy aging. Age Friendly covers a number of areas. Each Community decides where to Start. Some Are easily manageable and others require More strategic planning. Age Friendly communities ask themselves what they can do and where they can Start.
