D id you see the free press online poll wednesday it made me laugh because my co workers have been asking each other the same question. Which debate if any do you plan to watch thursday night the american ups Canadian or sorry Csiss on Tough Call. In the free press poll heres How it stacked up Canadian debate Sci or whatever else is on and then the american ups. Wow. Really the ups third in the Csc newsroom were All officially news junkies. Its a prerequisite of the Job or at least it helps. Weave been following the Canadian election Campaign As closely As we can without losing consciousness. We need to know who said what in the Canadian debate and How Well they said it and yet theress just something about that american up race something about seeing Sarah Palin try to hold her own under pressure that is undeniably interesting. It might not be so interesting if she did not look so much like Tina Fey. Admit it unless you re a die hard Palin supporter a hons easily offended part of the fun is anticipating How saturday night live will parody Palin and her opponent Joe Biden Friday night. If you a vent yet seen Fey portray Palin search the skits on youtube. Com. The likeness really is something to see. Before you accuse me of political sexism of joining the american Media in giving Palin a rougher ride than a male candidate would get let me just Tell you that when she was announced As John Mccaints running mate i thought it was a stroke of Genius. I said out loud this race has just gotten a lot More interesting. Palin paid tribute to two democratic party political trailblazers in her very first speech Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton. It was a Clear and shameless grab for female voters for disenchanted Clinton supporters. On that Day i thought except for her inexperience Palin was a Brilliant Choice filling in almost every Quality John Mccain lacked. Since then there have been moments her inexperience on the Federal stage have left her wanting hanging searching for a Clever retort to a Tough question. Ism surprised experienced handlers a vent edited and orchestrated her every sentence. Perhaps they ave tried. Perhaps there just a snot been enough time for her to make their words her mantra. Others have had years to make that Silken stuff sound second nature. Ism sure Sarah Palin would admit the race to be governor of Alaska did not come with this kind of scrutiny. Any time Ive met an american Over the past few weeks Ive jumped at the Chance to compare election campaigns. I know some people bemoan the fact our leaders Arentt As charismatic that we dont have an Obama esque orator inspiring us All to get out and vote. In past years Ive wished our governing system was a bit More like the american system. Ive wished we could vote separately for local representative and prime minister. Not anymore. No matter How much i love Tina Feys comedy the fight for the presidential nomination and now for office itself has been All consuming in the United states for what two years now perhaps something else deserved the Public cos attention like the Economy. In contrast our rip off the band Aid five and a half week election Campaign seems delightfully no nonsense. We started years later yet Well be wrapped up sooner and Back to the business of governing this country. Less time for mud slinging. More time to focus on issues that might actually have an Impact on your life. Whether we needed this election or not whether it makes a Hill of Beans difference i leave to you to decide. In the meantime remember this Date oct. 14. Thatus a week from tuesday. Vote please. If you dont vote you cant complain. And you know How we All love to complain. Just ask Tina Fey. Janet. Stewart Csc. Ca Good thing Palin looks like Tina Fey our rip of the band Aid five and a half week election Campaign seems delightfully no nonsense Boris Minkevich / Winnipeg free press David Asper left reacts to news from rhombus medias Niv Fichman that a substantial amount of the Money raised by the film pass Hendele which had its Winnipeg premiere on thursday will be funnelled into the Canadian museum for human rights.
