C m y k Page a2 i tvs thanksgiving that cherished time of year when canadians from coast to coast show How grateful they Are for lifers blessings by gathering around a dinner table with their relatives and then beating them senseless with Large decorative containers of mashed potatoes. The traditional dinner table debate at my House will be especially festive this Holiday weekend partly because my relatives political views Are Only slightly to the right of Attila the Hun but mainly because some bad word Bonehead scheduled a Federal election for the Day after thanksgiving. Seriously we Are having an election tuesday and the question you have to ask yourself right now is this did i remember to buy enough stove top stuffing sorry my bad the question you will need to ask yourself is do i have a clue who is running in this election if you Are anything like me the answer is no but dont worry. You Are not alone there Are a great Many people out there who have managed to tune out All the Campaign blather because and this is what makes our nation great season seven of dancing with the stars has been More riveting than anyone expected. Still if you Are going to hold your own with crazy Uncle Billy at the dinner table this weekend you Are going to need a thoughtful unbiased column that provides really solid information about the issues and the candidates. Well guess what you Are totally out Luck. But what i can do is give you my guide to our political leaders written from the perspective of someone who a snot actually been paying attention. Theress a lot of football to watch and jellied salads to be eaten today so lets get right to it. 1 Stephen Harper i used to be afraid of Harper on the grounds that he was obviously a robot sent to Earth by a civilization that was More highly developed than our own a civilization that had clearly outlawed human emotions. But then he started wearing sweater vests and lounging around on comfy chairs while speaking in hushed tones to old folks so i was kind of warming up to him. But what with All the worldwide economic chaos harpers scary Side is peeking out again. Its kind of like they took a wildebeest and put a Nice tie and some makeup on him. Everything seems of for a while but you just know the second the wildebeest is handlers look the other Way it will rip out several of your medically valuable organs. It also does not help to know that harpers mom is his closest financial adviser Stephen just because All the other world leaders Are nationalizing their Banks it does not mean you have to 2 Stephane Dion Dionys main problem Isnit the fact that English is not his first language his big problem is that he apparently does not have a first language. The result is that he comes across like a funeral director except not nearly As much fun. He could not spell Charisma if you spotted him the k. Remember that Dorky kid in High school the kid who was president of the chess club and the audiovisual club at the same time Well thatus Dion. Think about it do you want the country to be run by a Guy who spent his formative years having his head dunked in the toilet by bigger boys ism guessing not. 3 Jack Layton admit it when you look at Jack Layton you see one thing and one thing Only. A great big cheesy moustache. Am i right if that is not a porn Star moustache then i have never seen a porn Star moustache. Which of course i a vent. Ism just trying to make a Point. And that name Jack Layton is that not a makeup porn Star name say it Sloop Only in a husky voice and youll see what i mean but seriously you have to know that even his closest advisers have told him to ditch the facial hair on the grounds it makes him look like a used car Salesman. But no Jack loves his moustache More than he loves us. And Jack please Stop saying the words Kitchen table Over and Over and. 4 Elizabeth May is it just me or does anyone else think this woman is always shouting seriously she is even louder than that Guy on the oxi clean infomercials and ism not voting for him either. Also she basically has one Issue Sheds More Green than you could Ever Hope to be even if you Recycle and Wear hemp pyjamas. She reminds me of my kids when they were in Grade 1 the eyed hang around our bathroom watching me Brush my Teeth which i always do with the tap running then the eyed run and rat me out to my wife. Mommy daddy is wasting water the eyed screech. Do you want Elizabeth May watching you Brush your Teeth i dont think so. Anyway i Hope this has been of some help. Please try to have a Happy thanksgiving even if you do have to whack Uncle Billy upside the head with a tin of cranberries. And remember if you did not like the Turkey you bought this weekend you can pick another one on tuesday. Doug. Speirs free press. My. This year in particular was difficult because i found myself Short staffed. I decided that for the time being i would close the store on mondays until the new staff were trained. This did not mean that i would get time off rather that i was free to Book appointments and look after my clients. The six Day week is hard on the House and i found that trying to fit everything in on sundays was difficult. I decided one week not to bother going to the fruit and vegetable Market. I thought i would just go to my favorite grocery store and buy All my needs there. When i started circling the vegetable and fruit aisles i became frustrated. It was Harvest season and i find a Manitoban potato or Tomato. Where were the Ontario grapes and peaches Why would i buy anything from California or Mexico and pay for the shipping when right Here at Home there was fresh delicious produce being harvested As i was checking through my groceries the clerk asked if i found everything i required. I piped up and said no i did not find any Manitoban or Canadian produce. He started to explain that they did not have accounts with Canadian producers so they would get inferior product from the Farmers. I said i dont really care about the logistics just Tell your manager that i am not buying my groceries Here until they Start having Canadian produce during Harvest season. I decided to take the time to go to the Farmers Market. I bring myself to buy foreign produce at this time of year. I a vent returned to the grocery store. Mike says i should be honest and Tell you that i a vent gone grocery shopping. He has been the one who in desperation sets out to gather some food for the Kitchen. I told him that a snot the Point. I believe buying Canadian is important. That is Why the majority of my product is Canadian. All the upholstered goods Are Canadian made and the majority of our bedroom and dining room sets Are manufactured Here in Canada. I cant claim to be the cheapest but i can claim to be Canadian and i am proud of it. 20 % off in Stock lamps & custom order Trica bar stools 40 % off Shadow magic blinds 200 Princess st. 942 1177 refers to fabric land sewing club members store hours Mon. & tues. 9 30 am 6 pm wed., thur. & Fri. 9 30 am 9 pm sat. 9 30 am 6 pm Sun. 12 noon 5 pm wholesale pricing available Check out our new Home decor department fabric land sewing club members value hotline 1 866 r fabric Winnipeg 1172 st.
