I n my last voting Virgin article i wrote that a representative refused me voting rights. Thinking she was wrong i sent in my ballot request. And i was granted the right to vote. So someone give me a cigarette. Ive finally lost my american voting virginity. Unfortunately voting by mail was about As eventful for me As vacuuming dust out of my floor vents. But ism not sure what i had expected. Was the National Anthem supposed to play As i placed the ballot into the letter Box was Uncle Sam going to usher me to the Border and give me Apple pie truthfully that having not happened was my biggest disappointment. And now that Ive done my part ism Happy the election is almost Over. On tuesday the american popular vote will decide who will inherit the role of overseeing a sputtering Economy two War fronts and a country so tired of politics even the politicians Are sick of their own voices. I feel a Little sorry for John Mccain and Barack Obama. When they began their campaigns Iraq health care and global warming were the main worries. After months of unforeseeable strife the winning candidate might feel As if he were the contestant who picked the wrong suitcase on Deal or no Deal. Nevertheless while the Winner Heads to the White House its Likely that claims of voter fraud might cast a Shadow Over this years election. According to can Fox news and the Huffington postal sorts of antics have been reported. Acorn the group associated with Community organizing and housing issues has been accused of registering ineligible voters. Officials have been questioned about recording individuals multiple times signing up the deceased and in Las vegas registering members of the Dallas cowboys football team. Many Are disappointed by these allegations. And i agree with them. If people Are going to make up fantasy registrants Yourd think the eyed have chosen the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. And Over registration Isnit the Only concern. In states using touch voting screens some have claimed the candidate opposite from their selection appears to receive the ballot. I know exactly How these citizens feel. As Ive explained to my husband every time i use the Banks touch screen Deposit Button the withdraw one appears. The whole technology yes rigged voter woes Arentt unique to the United states. Dual citizens in Canada have contacted me with possible voter rights entanglements. One Reader Whord been voting without Issue since the Juk years was forced to Battle to receive this years ballot. His description mimicked what others had been thinking what a mess voting should be a simple task. And in Canada it is. But unlike Canadian elections where i bring in my card show id and Mark an x next to the person Wholl eventually take half my Money the american ballot is different. It uses the indirect method of choosing the president. Forgetting this fact i was surprised to see additional names on my ballots instruction Sheet. They were the electors. And if my candidates party wins the popular vote in my birth state of Arizona these individuals will cast their votes on the behalf of arizonans citizens. Slightly paranoid that the elector would become a faithless elector one who votes against his or her pledge i wanted to ensure that happen. This meant that i not Only had to research the candidates but the electors too. In the end i studied More to cast this ballot than i did to get my degree. At the beginning of this article i joked that i needed a cigarette. Now that Ive completed the whole process and heard All sorts of Wacky voting stories what i really want is a drink. And i doubt ill be the Only one. Voting fraud Shadow or not on nov. 4, americans will celebrate like its the 4th of july. And out of Relief the rest of the world might join them. Char. Adam its. Net so i voted. Now i need a stiff drink Charlene Adam note to readers due to the free press strike this weeks to plus could not be printed in time for your saturday paper.
