I figured id let you read a few of the anecdotes this year. Certain to bring a tear to your Eye a Grade 1 teacher at a school dropped off numerous Margarine containers filled by her Young charges. The teacher said she randomly asked one Little girl to help her Load the tubs full of pennies before she drove to drop them off at our pennies from heaven Campaign. The girl asked her teacher Are you going to see my Mommy from what i was told the girls Mother has passed away and when her teacher told her she was going to drop off the coins for our pennies from heaven Campaign she thought her teacher was dropping them off in heaven and then returning. I guess she thought i could drive to heaven see her Mother while dropping off the coins and then drive Back to the school the teacher said. Thatus a lot of pennies every year for 15 years share our strength Winnipeg raises funds for hunger Relief. In those years they have raised More than $ 1 million. This year the chefs dinner held at the Gates on Roblin and the taste of the nation event put on at the Fairmont Winnipeg brought in More than $ 120,000. They raised that much because everyone who participates donates their time products and services. Eighty per cent of the Money stays in Winnipeg while 20 per cent goes to Oxnam Canada. This year the Volunteer committee of sos decided to give $ 3,000 to our pennies Campaign. It takes More than food to fight hunger. It takes people who Are willing to make an investment in Long term solutions to hunger and poverty in Winnipeg Eric Schon president of sos Canada said in a letter. For More information go to wow. Strength. Org people who think of others the bulk of our Campaign rests on the shoulders of pennies and other coins. Many people do Send us cheques but lots of them dont want any personal recognition they want to give in honour of someone or in memory of a loved one. One woman put it Best when her daughter sent us a donation. She always says she has everything she needs and we know she would be pleased to know her gift has helped others the woman wrote. Thatus a lot of pennies part 2 Doug Lavallee Labattes District sales manager recently gave me a Cheque for $ 5,000 $ 2,500 for the Christmas cheer Board and $ 2,500 for Winnipeg Harvest. By my math that works out to half a million pennies. That will help a lot of our local hungry. Certain to bring a tear to your Eye a note received from a school i Kevin i had to share this with you. We Are up to 72 pounds of coins. A Grade 2 girl came in this morning with a $ 20 Bill her allowance for the pennies Campaign but she was worried because it increase the weight. Her generous thoughts of others Are weightless. Diane just remember if you re behind because of the holidays and still have coins folding Money or cheques you can still bring or Send them to the free press even after our Campaign closes.
