Two other Winnipeg men Alan Mulder and Christian Laurin both 20, have pleaded guilty to similar charges. They recently reached an As yet undisclosed plea Deal with prosecutors in Exchange for testimony against Morneau. They Are expected to take the stand today. If convicted Montana Law dictates that Morneau must spend a minimum of 10 years in a Federal prison and pay a $ 4 million Fine. Hers considered innocent until proven guilty. Past convictions show Montana is not the state in which to get caught for drug infractions. Last january judge Richard Cebull who Isis overseeing mor Neaus trial sent a Man convicted of trafficking methamphetamine to prison for 20 years to be followed by 10 years of probation. Seykora began the prosecutions Case by calling trooper Glenn Quinnell to testify about what happened just after he pulled Morneau Mulder and Laurin Over on the i 94 Highway for a headlight infraction at about 8 a. M. Feb. 9. After bringing the Driver of the car Laurin Back to his Cruiser and starting to question him Quinnell testified that something seemed Odd and some of the things the Young bodybuilder was telling him did not make a lot of sense. Quinnell testified that Laurin gave conflicting statements about How he knew Morneau who was sleeping in the passenger seat of the 2003 Volkswagen Golf belonging to Mulders parents. At one Point Laurin told the officer Morneau is a Friend of Mulders. In the next breath Laurin described him As simply a Hitchhiker Quinnell said. Seykora played in court a video of the traffic Stop recorded on the patrol cards dashboard camera. After talking further to one of the suspects in the car Quinnell walked away from it telling a fellow officer at the scene that something aint right Here. Later after More questions were asked of the three men Quinnell called his police station saying dispatch we have a Load Here. Mulder consented to having the vehicle searched Back at the police station in Glendive. After opening one of three Large Duffel bags in the cards trunk Quinnell called to have a search warrant written up and the massive Quantity of drugs was seized. The judge heard that while Morneau claimed to not know the other two men and to have been picked up by them after missing his ride with another vehicle text messages seized from Mulders cellphone show they had been in Contact before the traffic Stop. Investigators also collected hotel Gas and other receipts from the car and Mulders Wallet As part of the search. Police allege they show the plan to smuggle the drugs had been in place for Days before the men were arrested. Seykora told the seven Man five woman jury that the whole affair was a drug smuggling business trip. Defence lawyer David Duke cautioned the jury in his opening remarks about coming to Quick conclusions. Only at the very end do you get the Chance to pull it together. An ramp officer from Boissevain was also called to testify monday about hotel receipts he uncovered in Souris. James. Turner free press. My. Ca City Trio faces Tough u. S. Ca Brandon Oil and Gas pipeline giant Elbridge inc. Has Given $ 100,000 to each of Manitoba ass five Dakota first nations. Indications Are the Money which the bands received late last year is an Extension of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2007 involving pipeline construction. I can confirm we provided $ 500,000 for investment in their communities Elbridge spokeswoman Anne Mcintosh said. It was really provided not too Long before Christmas. The Money has already been put to Good use said chief Ken Chalmers of the Birdtail Sioux first nation. His Peoples share of the Money has gone toward construction of a new general store and Gas bar he said. We just poured the Cement before the holidays. Its a great big store which will give my people the benefits of cheaper food and groceries. The Dakota Are one of five aboriginal groups across the Western provinces negotiating with Elbridge about employment training opportunities and Community investment funding. In 2006, Elbridge announced construction of two major Oil pipeline expansions in Manitoba. The Dakota at first sought intervener status with the National Energy Board in the company is plans. Chiefs of the non treaty bands argued their people never ceded control of the territory and wanted to be consulted on the use of the provinces natural resources. When Elbridge agreed to negotiate with the Dakota the five chiefs withdrew their intervener application and signed the memorandum of understanding. The agreement could become a formalized contract if negotiations continue. The company completed safety training courses on the five Dakota reserves last summer although most of the contracts for one of the projects had already been filled. Not All the Dakota chiefs see the Benefit of continued negotiations with Elbridge however. Anupa Waka chief Frank Brown says the company has not come through As promised. Were thinking of terminating our discussion with Elbridge he said. Brown acknowledged the company gave the Anupa Waka $ 100,000 last december but said it was Only half what was originally agreed upon. The training some of his band members received did not result in steady jobs either Brown said As the contractors hire Union people for employment. You have to be part of the Union to work there.
