SAY Magazine has said it best.
The Manitoba- based publication - billed as
the " only lifestyle magazine in the world for Native
people" - won first place for the 2012 Native
American Journalist Association Media Award for
Best Magazine Layout and third place for general
excellence.
It was launched in 2002 and publishes four regular
issues annually, plus an economic development
issue and a university and college guide for native
students.
NOBODY'S adding fur pillows to
a gift registry just yet. Kim Kardashian
and Kanye West may be
very publicly in love, but Kimmy
K's not looking for marriage. Not
yet, anyway - but give the lady
some time. Maybe 72 days or so.
The subject of marriage came
up during the second part of Kardashian's
interview with Oprah
Winfrey, which aired Sunday as
part of Oprah's Next Chapter,
and Kardashian denied that she
and West were working on wedding
plans.
" Is Kanye West your new fairy
tale?" Oprah asked her.
Kardashian, perhaps unfamiliar
with any stories about rappers
and/ or sex- tape stars in the
Brothers Grimm's canon, did not
reply with a yes or no response
to O's query. She did, however,
say this:
" We met almost a decade ago,
we've known each other for
a very long time, we've been
friends for six or seven years,"
she told Oprah.
" I don't know why it took us so
long to get together: I think we've
always had an attraction to each
other, but we've always been in
other relationships or it wasn't
the right timing.
" One day it just happened - it
took me by surprise."
And that thing that happened
- a romance that's been Instagrammed
and Tweeted and
reported from here to People
magazine - has definitely been
good press for Kardashian. Still,
she told Oprah she's not with
West ( entirely) for the publicity.
" It's your heart you're playing
with," Kardashian said, denying
any suggestion she's in it for the
exposure. " I couldn't sacrifice
my heart for a publicity stunt."
Kardashian's ex, Kris Humphries,
might disagree with that
statement. The NBA star was
being deposed in Minnesota on
Monday as part of the couple's
divorce battle, TMZ reports. And
while Humphries has made past
claims about just how far Kimmy
K will go for fame ( days ago,
he claimed her star- launching
sex tape was engineered by her
mom, claims a source close to
the family denied to TMZ), he
seems to take more interest in
Kardashian's " very long" friendship
with West than the average
gossip- watcher.
According to Radar, Humphries'
legal team is seeking information
that would reveal when
exactly West and Kardashian
came together as " Kimye," so to
speak. To do that, Radar reports
that Team Humphries is looking
to depose West's ex, Amber
Rose - the model who famously
revealed how Kardashian broke
up their romance. " Kim is one
of the main reasons why me and
Kanye are not together," Rose
told Star in January.
West - as well as Kardashian's
ex- boyfriend, Reggie Bush - are
expected to be deposed in the
coming days, Radar reports.
Once all the depositions are
through, Radar notes that a date
for the couple's divorce trial will
be scheduled.

WATERBURY, Conn. - A reopened police
investigation has concluded that actor Dylan
McDermott's mother was killed by her gangster
boyfriend in 1967.
Waterbury police reopened the investigation last
year into Diane McDermott's death after Dylan
McDermott contacted them with questions, the
Republican- American newspaper reported Sunday
and Monday as part of a two- part series.
He was five years old
when his mother was
shot in February 1967.
Her death was originally
ruled an accident.
Police told the newspaper
that the evidence
they found would be
enough to file murder
charges against John
Sponza, who lived with
McDermott at the time.
He had told authorities
that McDermott accidently
shot herself after
picking up a gun he had
been cleaning.
Sponza, who police
say had ties to organized
crime, was shot to death in 1972, his body
found in the trunk of a car in a Waltham, Mass.,
grocery store parking lot.
H. Wayne Carver, the state's medical examiner,
reviewed McDermott's autopsy and determined
that the gun found near the body was too small a
calibre to have been the weapon used to kill her.
The wound also showed that the murder weapon
had been pressed to the back of her head, according
to his report.
Police Superintendent Michael Gugliotti also
stumbled over some of the initial findings.
" What troubled me was that there was very little
followup other than the statement Sponza had
given to police," Gugliotti said.
" Sponza is telling the police that night that he
very rarely, if ever, had arguments, yet everyone
we spoke to, including Dylan, who was only five
at the time, remembered very violent, vicious
arguments," he added. " Dylan vividly recalls the
amount of times, not only flashing the gun, but
pointing it at the kid, saying, ' Shut up and get out
of here.' He's still probably traumatized by that."
Dylan McDermott, who won a Golden Globe in
1999 for his role on the TV drama The Practice ,
declined to comment to the newspaper about the
investigation. His sister, Robin Herrera, said she is
relieved that the truth has been discovered.
" I'm happy to know my mother wasn't mentally
ill or depressed," she said. " Somebody took her
from us; she didn't leave us."
Police said the McDermott investigation has led
to evidence that also implicates Sponza in at least
two other unsolved homicides.
