But a government spokeswoman said Wednesday the request is not being considered and may not be possible. The bears weren't tagged when they were released in a remote location last week and can't be tracked, she said. Rene Dubois of St. Malo, a retired construction worker, found the fiveweek- old cub starving in a ditch along a highway in March. When he phoned a conservation officer, he was told the cub would be destroyed, so Dubois took him home to nurse him back to health. A week later, conservation officers seized the bear and placed him at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park Zoo. A heated debate ensued about his future. Animal advocates wanted him to go to a sanctuary in Ontario to mature before being released next year. On June 19, conservation officials announced Makoon and another rescued cub had been released in a remote location. A rally was planned for last night outside the zoo to force the issue. Winnipeg Humane society spokeswoman Aileen White admits the odds aren't good the two cubs can be found, but she wants the province to try. She said supporters of the bears also want to see pictures of them being released back into the wild - proof the animals weren't secretly destroyed. " There is this concern and people are wanting to see the pictures," she said. " We're being ignored and denied on so many fronts, it's stupefying." The government spokeswoman said conservation officials have always wanted the best for the animals and the cubs were indeed released back into the woods, although there are no photos to prove it. - The Canadian Press Province resists calls to search for bear cubs W INNIPEG Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a body recovered from the Red River two weeks ago. The body was spotted about 10 a. m. June 15 on the east shore of the Red River, just south of the north Perimeter Bridge. The body is that of a woman, believed to be 35 to 50 years of age, approximately 5- 5 in height, with a slim build. She may have been wearing dentures. The woman was wearing four pieces of unique jewelry police hope will lead to her identification. Michalyshen said while there were some witness reports the body was found wrapped in plastic, that was incorrect. He added the body was found entangled in debris, which probably led passersby to reach their conclusions. Michalyshen said those false reports have led people to believe the body was another victim of alleged serial killer Shawn Lamb, adding this woman was not murdered. Two of the women alleged to have been killed by Lamb - Carolyn Sinclair and Lorna Blacksmith - were found wrapped in plastic near Dumpsters in the city's West End. Michalyshen said the autopsy found no wounds on the woman's body. " At this time, this is a missing person's investigation," Michalyshen said. The historic Exchange District music venue and hotel has been closed since May 2011 when a waterline break flooded the basement. City crews helped control the leak, but left responsibility for repairs to the hotel because the break was located on private property. Owner Daren Jorgenson disputed the account, claiming the city broke a valve on an abandoned pipe. The property has remained closed since. But yesterday, a late- afternoon post on the Albert's Facebook page offered some hope the venue will open this fall. " Update: We will start booking shows again starting August 1, 2012 for dates September 7th and onward," the statement read, followed by a " no media comment," post. Jorgenson declined to comment on the reopening earlier this month, stating via email " there has been too much press coverage of the Royal Albert."
