Brandon RCMP say their investigation shows a 2006 Toyota Rav4 was headed north on Highway 468 when it hit the side of a westbound Canadian Pacific train at a level crossing. The crossing has crossing signs and flashing lights. The driver was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. No one else was in the vehicle and no one else was hurt. A DOG who came to the Winnipeg Humane Society in January after being shot in the face is healed and ready to be adopted. Pardner, a one- year- old shepherd mix, was brought to the WHS after the Swan Valley Animal Protection League found him with a gunshot wound to the head. The WHS veterinary staff performed four surgeries on him to repair the damage to his skull. Pardner will live with the bullet lodged in his neck as it was too dangerous to remove, but has since made a full recovery after spending the last four months recovering in veterinary care and foster homes. His adopters will need to feed him soft food for the next year as the bone continues to heal. “ It’s incredible that Pardner has gone through such trauma but is still such a friendly and good- natured dog,” said Dr. Erika Anseeuw, director of Animal Health at the WHS. “ He is an awesome dog and considering what he’s been through, he doesn’t hold a grudge.” Pardner is ready to be adopted from the shelter. “ This sort of injury is sadly more common than we’d like it to be, and not all dogs are as lucky as Pardner is to survive.” Anyone interested in adopting Pardner or any dog or cat is advised to visit the WHS website at www. winnipeghumanesociety. ca.
