A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD
OF ENTERTAINMENT
NEW YORK - Neil Patrick Harris
has given way to Hugh Jackman at the
Tony Awards.
Producers of the annual telecast
celebrating the best of Broadway said
Tuesday that Jackman will once again
take up hosting duties for the next
awards on CBS June 8 at Radio City
Music Hall.
It will be Jackman's fourth time
hosting the Tonys. He previously emceed
the show from 2003- 2005.
Jackman, best known for being
the hairy Wolverine in The X- Men
franchise, was last on Broadway with
a one- man show in 2011 that routinely
sold out the 1,176- seat Broadhurst Theatre
and usually posted weekly grosses
of $ 1.5 million.
Last year's telecast saw viewership
jump to 7.24 million people, the show's
largest audience in four years. Harris
hosted for the fourth time but he'll be
on Broadway this spring in Hedwig
and the Angry Inch .

TORONTO - Seven- time Juno Award
nominee Kathleen Edwards is casting
doubt upon the future of her music
career.
The Ottawa singer- songwriter wrote
in a Facebook post Tuesday: " I'm
really sorry but I'm pretty sure I don't
want to make music anymore."
She said she had been turning down
gigs and that despite her efforts, she
just couldn't find a way to get " back in
the saddle."
She went on to speculate on her
next career, including " landscaper,"
" farmer" or " coffee trailer owner."
Edwards' last album was 2012' s
Voyageur , which brought the singer
her highest chart positions yet in
Canada ( where it went to No. 2) and the
U. S. ( 39).
Addressing her fans directly, she
said she needs " some kind of change"
and acknowledged that no final decision
had been made.

Contrite L. A. newscaster apologizes
after mixing up Jackson, Fishburne
LOS ANGELES - A Los
Angeles newscaster apologized
to Samuel L. Jackson
on Monday for confusing him
with fellow actor Laurence
Fishburne during a live TV
interview.
KTLA entertainment reporter
Sam Rubin was interviewing
Jackson on Monday morning about
the film RoboCop ( see review on
C3) when he asked the actor if he'd
gotten a lot of reaction to his recent
Super Bowl commercial.
When Jackson asked, " What
Super Bowl commercial?" Rubin
realized his mistake and began to
apologize. But it was too late.
" You're as crazy as the people on
Twitter," an animated Jackson, who
was doing the interview by satellite
from Atlanta, told Rubin. " I'm not
Laurence Fishburne. We don't all
look alike. We may be all black and
famous but we don't all look alike."
As Rubin, who is white, tried to
apologize, a smiling Jackson went
on at length, listing various black
actors and their commercials.
Video of the exchange quickly went
viral.
" I'm the ' What's in Your Wallet,'
black guy," he said of his own commercial
for a credit- card company.
" He's the car black guy. Morgan
Freeman is the other credit- card
black guy. You only hear his voice,
though, so you probably won't
confuse him with Laurence Fishburne."
Fishburne, as the character
Morpheus from the Matrix movies,
appeared in the Super Bowl commercial
for Kia automobiles.
The pair eventually got back
to talking about RoboCop , with
Jackson telling Rubin how highly he
regards Michael Keaton and Gary
Oldman, who appear in the film
with him.
" You do know who they all are
though, right?" he teased. " Just in
case they have some of them on
the show. Do some work. Do some
research. Make sure you don't confuse
them with those other white
actors."
When he returned to the air 30
minutes later, Rubin apologized profusely,
saying he has interviewed
Jackson several times and does
indeed know who he is.
" I really pride myself on the fact
that unlike a lot of people who do
this kind of work, more often than
not I really do know what I'm talking
about," he said. " But I didn't 30
minutes ago and I'm really embarrassed
about it, and I very much
apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and
anyone else who was offended for
what was a very amateur mistake."
