A TRIP AROUND THE WORLD
OF ENTERTAINMENT
Big Bang star headed
to Broadway
JIM Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang
Theory , will play the Almighty in a Broadway production
called An Act of God .
It's based on a comic book called The Last Testament: A
Memoir by God . David Javerbaum, who wrote the book and has
a cupboard full of Emmys and other awards ( mainly for comedy
writing), is adapting his book for the stage. Performances
begin May 5 at the Studio 54 theatre in Manhattan.
Downton done after this season: report
THE British hit Downton Abbey will indeed end with this season, an anonymous source told the Daily Mirror . This will surprise just about nobody since the show, now in its
sixth series, has pretty plainly run out of petrol.
Showrunner Julian Fellowes wants to move on ( to a project about 19th- century New York), and most of the stars are lining up new projects, the source said.
New York in the 1800s, eh? Surely it won't be tycoons and servants, will it?
Past marriages
didn't count: Penn
MADONNA didn't count and neither did Robin Wright, Sean
Penn tells the British edition of Esquire magazine.
The reporter asked him about remarrying - which he is
widely expected to do any day now, with Charlize Theron.
" Yes, I'd get married again," he answered. " You say I've
been married twice before, but I've been married under
circumstances where I was less informed than I am today, so
I wouldn't even consider it a third marriage, I'd consider it a
first marriage on its own terms if I got married again."
He also said he has " not been happy in a single relationship"
until this one.
After a fruitless engagement to Elizabeth McGovern, Penn
was married to Madge from 1985- 89, and to Wright from
1996 to 2010.
Ryder
on board
with sequel
DOES the world really need a sequel
to Beetlejuice ? Winona Ryder seems to
think so.
The 1988 hit comedy gave the teenage
Ryder her first big boost toward
stardom, so of course she's fond of it.
When somebody from Huffington Post
asked her about a sequel the other day,
she said, " As far as I know, it's gonna
happen."
The original also starred Michael
Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Geena
Davis. Keaton has said he would do
a sequel if director Tim Burton is in
charge. Burton has expressed interest,
so maybe this is for real.
Fourth child for Tucci
IT'S a boy for Stanley Tucci, one of my favourite
actors, and his wife Felicity Blunt, a literary agent
and the sister of Emily.
The lad, named Matteo Oliver Tucci, was born
last Sunday in London.
" I believe he is mine. We are all thrilled to
welcome him to this cold, cruel world," Tucci told
People , the first part, at least, evidently being a
joke.
He went on to say, " We are all thrilled that he is
here and healthy."
Tucci has three kids - 14- year- old twins and a
12- year- old, with his first wife Kate, who died in
2009. Emily Blunt, who starred with Tucci in The
Devil Wears Prada , set him up with her sister.
Keira's mom
misspelled her name
KEIRA Knightley tells Elle magazine why she has that
strange first name ( Kiera being the more common
spelling):
" I was meant to be named ' Kiera,' after a Russian ice
skater who was on the TV one day," she said. " My dad fancied
her and nicked her name for me.
" But it was my mum who went to register my birth, and
she accidentally spelled ' ei' instead of ' ie' because my
mum's crap at spelling. Apparently, when she came back he
said: ' What the ( bad word)? You've spelt her name wrong!' "
The skater was Kiera Ivanova, who won a medal for the
Soviet Union at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics. The actress
was born 13 months later.
Hmm. I wonder if Mom's spelling " mistake" might have
involved just a trace of resentment her husband wanted to
name the baby after some cutie he'd seen on TV.
Movie sounds simply ridiculous
LIKE almost everyone else on earth, I'm sick and tired of Adam
Sandler. But I might have to make an exception for Ridiculous 6 ,
a movie he's making for Netflix.
Here's why: TheWrap. com reports the cast will include Dan
Aykroyd, Steve Buscemi, Whitney Cummings, Will Forte, Taylor
Lautner, Jon Lovitz, Nick Nolte, Rob Schneider, Luke Wilson,
Steve Zahn, comedian Lavell Crawford of Breaking Bad fame
and Vanilla Ice, as well as various lesser lights, and Sandler
himself.
It's a parody of ensemble westerns such as 1960' s The Magnificent
Seven . Vanilla Ice plays Mark Twain.
Overall, then, we have the recipe for a train wreck of historic
proportions. This thing may make Johnny Depp's The Lone
Ranger look good.
Production starts this month. There's no air date yet.
