MISS
LONELYHEARTS
DEAR MISS LONELYHEARTS: I'm a single
mom and was attracted to my new manager
when I went back to work from my maternity
leave years ago. I have a different job and
don't work with him anymore. We were always
attracted to each other, even though he is older.
He is single. We have recently got together in a
friends- with- benefits situation. The thing is, it
has made me realize that I care about him and
I can tell he feels the same.
I'm not good with relationships. I like my
space, and being a single mom means most of
my time revolves around work and my child.
I just keep thinking that if it were to get more
serious it would derail and end like all my
other relationships. I'm enjoying the time with
him, and wouldn't mind a bit more. I know I
can't handle a relationship right now, and he's
not ready for one either, but we both enjoy being
together. I'm not sure what to do from here.
- Confused Friend With Benefits, Winnipeg
Dear Confused FWB: As long as he's not
married, why not relax and see what happens
in this friends- with- benefits and some caring
relationship? There's really no problem unless
you want to worry it into one. You're both on
the same page. So what if he's older? There's a
big attraction, in more ways than one, as this is
your second go- round and feelings seem to be
stronger.
You say you can't handle a relationship right
now, but they come in many different colours
and shapes. The only real problem here is
you're going into it with a whack of negativity.
It's time for you to get a little counselling
around that defeatist attitude to see if you can
reduce it or get rid of it, unless you like using
it to keep men away from your heart.
Dear Miss Lonelyhearts: My husband is
going deaf at an early age and is embarrassed
about it. His problem can be fixed quite easily
with a hearing aid, and we had the money
for it saved in a special joint account after
eight months. But he did a terrible thing: I
discovered he emptied the special account. I
phoned his office in a rage and he came home
to show me what he had bought us instead of a
hearing aid: a big Caribbean cruise in March.
I was neither impressed nor hoodwinked. I
cried! Then he went at me for " spoiling the big
surprise."
I said: " I'm not going on this trip unless you
get a hearing aid before we go, and it is all on
your dime this time."
He said I couldn't be that mean and would
get over it in a few days. Believe me, I won't,
and I want my part of the money back for the
hearing aid if he doesn't buy one. The cruise
tickets are sitting on the hall table, looking at
me every time I pass by. I refuse to be tricked
by my stupidly vain husband. He can't understand
half of what I say to him in a normal
voice anymore, and our shared wit is a big part
of our relationship. I don't know what to say
to him anymore. Please help. - Struck Dumb,
Winnipeg
Dear Struck Dumb: You can tell him that
stubbornly refusing a hearing aid deprives
you of one of the fun parts of the husband
you married. That in itself is being unfair to
you. He needs to understand he's chosen pride
over a portion of your happiness as a couple.
You have every right to demand your half of
the hearing- aid fund back, unless he works it
so he has the hearing aid in hand along with
the cruise. That would be a good combination,
wouldn't it? Then, if you two can stop
revisiting the fight over the bank- draining
episode, everybody wins. He can hear again
and you go on a trip and enjoy having your
relationship fully back.

Heater one hot little item
HONEYWELL'S tiny Heat Bud HCE100 personal heater is the perfect gadget for this
time of year.
It's built with a great safety feature - if it's not on a flat surface or gets knocked
over, it turns off.
The ceramic heater doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles; just turn it on to warm
yourself. ( There are high and low settings.)
You'll be amazed at how this little guy can sit under a desk and keep you warm using
only 250 watts of energy at the high setting.
It's built with ceramic technology, which I had to look up.
" Ceramic heaters are coil- based units that utilize a fan to draw air through a special
conducting ceramic element and then direct it outward. Because the ceramic core
is larger than the heating coils, it can operate at a lower temperature, continuously
releasing the same amount of energy over a larger area," thermospace. com states.
If a bigger heater is needed, Honeywell has plenty from which to choose.

Keep your cables
organized
HOW many times have you seen something you might
like, but then decided it was something you don't need,
even though it would be handy?
The Magnetic Organization System ( MOS) is just that
item.
It's pretty simple: Just open the box and put it on your
desk, and the setup is complete.
The system magnetically keeps your charging cables
organized and accessible by holding onto the connectors.
For me, the most important design element is it
keeps the cables from falling behind the desk when
they are not in use.
Because the triangle- shaped device has a slide- proof
pad, it won't slide on the table.
If you're using a non- magnetic charging cable such
as Apple's original cable, that's not a problem. The system
comes with magnetic cable ties to attach them.
What makes it a complete system is the included
wall- mount adhesive to complement the triangular
device.
DETAILS: Available in anodized aluminum
( US$ 39.95) and black and white polycarbonate finishes
( US$ 19.95); http:// mosorganizer. com.
Backpack lantern
a bright idea
BACKFIRE'S compact Clamplight lantern is the latest
addition to the company's innovative flashlight line.
Just clip it to your backpack or attach it to a belt
loop, tent or whatever will hold it securely. Once
clipped, it rotates and pivots to enable it to shine in
most any direction; use it in flashlight, lantern or
strobe mode with the push of a button.
The exterior has a rubberized finish fused with
stainless fittings, along with high- impact ABS plastic
that gives it a rugged feel.
The lantern meets IPX4 international weather standards
and even floats.
Three AAA batteries keep it shining bright up to 28
hours.

BALLISTIC Case Co.' s protective case for the iPhone 6 is designed to keep
your device protected and gives you access to all the smartphone's functions.
The reason I like this case for supreme protection is it does the hardcore
work without the hardcore look and bulk many similar cases have.
You have your choice of six different models, with each offering a different
amount of protection.
The Hard Core case is just that. You can drop it from more than 3.6
metres and expect your smartphone to be safe. All four corners have extra
protection for drops and bangs, as well as a built- in screen- protection layer.
The Jewel is much better- looking but can only be dropped from approximately
1.8 metres and keeps your screen exposed. That's where the tempered-
glass screen protector ( sold separately) comes in.
DETAILS: $ 59.99 for the Hard Core case, US$ 19.99 for the Jewel; goballisticcase.
