I T’S been one week since Thelma Krull was last
seen, and Winnipeg police said Friday they are
“ grasping at straws” trying to locate her.
On Friday, police released a picture of two people
they believe were in the same area as Krull Saturday
morning.
The picture is a grainy screen capture from a
video surveillance camera.
The people in the photo are on bicycles near the
Valley Gardens Community Centre and Kildonan
East High School around 8 a. m.
Police spokesman Const. Eric Hofley stressed
these individuals are not considered suspects, but
investigators want to identify them and speak with
them.
“ It’s apparent that these two individuals were in
the area,” Hofley said. “ We’re hopeful that they may
have something to add to the investigation, but it’s
quite possible that they will not.”
“ We are really grasping at straws right now,” he
said.
Krull, 57, has been missing since she left her home
around 7 a. m in the Harbourview South area to go
for a long walk.
Police have said her glasses were found in the Valley
Gardens area.
They wouldn’t specify if any other evidence has
been found in relation to the case.
Hofley confirmed the homicide unit is now leading
the investigation. Multiple units are actively
involved in the investigation, including the missingpersons
unit and ground search and rescue, he
said.
“ At the end of the day, we’re still treating it as a
missing- person ( case). Thelma has not been located,
and her family and the general public at large is
hopeful that she will be located safely,” Hofley said.
“ This investigation has moved into the area where
the homicide unit has taken the lead.”
Hofley noted Krull’s case was “ quite unusual”
because the grandmother had never gone missing
before.
“ We often see reports of missing people, and fortunately
they’re located relatively quickly, within
days,” he said.
“ Often, we’ll see people that, for whatever reasons,
may be more chronic( ally) missing. Thelma,
for all apparent purposes, has never had any issues.
She’s never gone missing.”
Police again urged those with video surveillance
systems in the areas of Valley Gardens, East Kildonan
and Harbourview to check the footage for
signs of Thelma between 7 a. m. and 10 a. m. last Saturday.
If any footage of Krull is observed, contact the
homicide unit with the information, Hofley said.
In the event Krull has suffered a medical condition,
police again pleaded with nearby residents
to check their personal properties, outbuildings,
vehicles and any green space surrounding their
property.
Krull is described as Caucasian, 5- 4, 170 pounds
with short, dyed blond hair with a purple streak.
She was last seen wearing black Capri- style pants, a
reddish- orange shirt and hiking boots.
