City officials confirmed Friday that earlier this month a couple of marijuana plants were found planted in a flower bed on city hall property. A city gardener made the discovery in the flower beds on King Street, across from the Public Safety Building. City spokeswoman Lisa Fraser said each year across the city, a few plants are discovered in various city flower beds through the weeding process. The response by city crews has previously been to throw the pot plants out. " City gardeners perform weekly maintenance on beds and remove all weeds and dispose of them into the garbage. When these plants were found, the gardener disposed of them in the garbage with the other weeds," she said in an email statement. However, it seems the policy has recently changed. " Since this time, a new process has been put in place, and staff have been directed to contact the Police non- emergency line and report the presence of these plants if they are found," Fraser said in the email. - staff Pot plants pulled from city hall JEFF CHIU / THE ASSOCIATED PRESS FILES The city finds a few pot plants in public every year.
