D ISAPPEARED, but not forgotten, people
said with their presence at the seventh
annual No Stone Unturned Concert on
Saturday that honours missing people.
" The people showing up here, that means
support. That means we're not alone," said Kyle
Kematch, the brother of Amber Guiboche, a
20- year- old Winnipegger who went missing in
2010.
One family visiting from Churchill said they
attended the concert to show empathy for the
families.
" There's strength in numbers," said the
mother, who did not wish to be named. " Too
many women are going missing."
" That's what I want to see. That's the best,"
said Kematch, of the public support.
Kematch continues to honour his sister
and other missing people with his work as an
operator of the non- profit Drag the Red. The
program is searching the Red River for clues
regarding missing and murdered people.
Between 500 and 1,000 people were expected
at Saturday's concert, under a sweltering sun
at the Oodena Celebration Circle at The Forks.
The concert ran from noon to 10 p. m.
The concert was started and is hosted by the
family of Claudette Osborne, who has been missing
since July 25, 2008 - exactly seven years
ago Saturday.
The concert, which includes a feast, was also
awaiting the arrival of Osborne's stepmother,
who was completing a 900- kilometre walk from
Norway House First Nation, as a member of a
16- person relay team. Osborne is from Norway
House.
" The concert is about connecting the community
to this issue ( of missing people) and
to support families who often feel alone," said
Bernadette Smith, Osborne's sister.
Smith also acknowledged missing 57- year- old
Thelma Krull, who was last seen the morning
of July 11 leaving her Harbourview South home
for a walk in the Valley Gardens area.
" I wholeheartedly feel for the family," Smith
said.
" With Thelma, we need to recognized that it
could happen to anyone."
Smith maintained her sister " is still out there
somewhere."
" We definitely have not given up hope," she
said.
The family collected $ 20,000 from donations
as a reward for anyone with information
leading to Osborne's discovery. The money has
been placed in a trust, still waiting for someone
with information to come forward, Smith said.
The concert was originally for missing
women but has now been expanded to include
all missing people, Smith said. It is run on
donations, both from performers who give their
time and monetary donations from individuals
and companies.

R CMP are investigating the killing of a
hunting and fishing guide in South Indian
Lake, northwest of Thompson near
Leaf Rapids.
Mark Dumas, 27, guided every year at the
Big Sand Lake Resort, which is owned by the
community. His body was found Thursday
morning on a nearby island.
RCMP did not confirm any details Saturday
about the incident, but people in the community
said a suspect had been arrested.
South Indian Lake is the main settlement of
O- Pipon- Na- Piwin Cree Nation.
"( Dumas) comes back every year with us.
He was a really, really nice young man, very
helpful, really well- liked by staff," said Linda
McKerchar, the resort's office manager.
Dumas was also very popular with guests,
she said.
" We have a lot of repeat guests, and they
would specifically ask for Mark as their
guide," said McKerchar. " He was a real kind
of gentle soul."
Dumas's mother declined comment. The
First Nation's chief, Chris Baker, was not
available Saturday.
A relative said the family has five daughters
and another son.
" He was a good kid," the relative said of
Dumas.
McKerchar said people associated with the
lodge are shocked.
" It's usually the same people who come back
here year after year, so it's like losing one of
the family," said McKerchar. " Mark was never
a fighting or confrontational person."
South Indian Lake was flooded in the 1970s
by Manitoba Hydro's Churchill River Diversion,
forcing the relocation of the community.
