ROBERT DALE ( BOB) ARMSTRONG With great sadness we announce the passing of Robert Dale ‘ Bob’ Armstrong, of Prince George, BC, on July 13, 2015 at the Crossroads Inlet Hospice in Port Moody, BC after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Winnipeg, MB on November 24, 1938, he joined the Canadian Navy as a young man and headed west. After 10 years in Esquimalt, BC Bob transferred to the Canadian Armed Forces and moved his young family first to CFB Penhold, AB, then on to Prince George to work at CFB Baldy Hughes, where he took early retirement at the age of 42 and eventually found his dream job working at the Husky Oil Refinery until his retirement at age 65. Bob is survived by his son, Kevin Armstrong ( Deni), brother, George Armstrong ( Loretta), stepson, Michael Loreth, stepdaughter, Deb Nielsen ( Dave), grandchildren, Kailea, Asher, Matthew and Katie. He was predeceased by wife, Valerie ‘ Charlie’ Armstrong, wife, Sue Ryan Armstrong, son, Shawn, and siblings, Dorothy, Edward and Glen. Memorial Services will be held on August 1, 2015 at 2: 00 p. m. at Assman’s Funeral Chapel. She was born in India and immigrated to Canada in 1981 and was the youngest of eight children. Known as Kamal, Nitee, Mom and Sardarni, she is survived by her husband, Kuldip, and daughters, Kirandip ( 21), Jasmine ( 19) and Pritam ( 10). With her zest for life, Kamal was the first one on the dance floor and the last one off. Kamal shared with everyone around her the meaning of joy, strength, selflessness and individuality. To her husband, siblings, and children, she was a best friend. In the fifty years she had, she did more living than most do in a lifetime. With her passing, happiness darkens to sorrow that will be lightened in time only with the memories of her laugh, her beauty, her resilience and most of all, her never- ending love. Pearl is survived by her daughter Linda Bruce of Ottawa and granddaughter Shelley Bruce ( Ryan Bragg) of Vancouver; sons Sid ( Vivian) and Ken ( Pat), step- granddaughter Jennifer Weedon and grandson Jeffrey Fedorovich and their families, all of Winnipeg; sisters Anastasia Cebriy and Helen ( Nick) Kostur, and brothers Peter ( Stella), Harry ( Madeline), and Steve in British Columbia; and many nieces and nephews as well as greatnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters Ann Ledeniuk and Doris Buzikievich; brothersin- law Ludwig Buzikievich, Emil Schnitzer, and Peter Cebriy; partner Bill Bullman, and former husband Paul Fedorovich. Pearl was born on December 26, 1928, the second of John and Mary’s eight children, in St. Julien, Saskatchewan, and grew up on the family farm near Wakaw. She came to Winnipeg with her sister Ann in 1947, by bus and train, financed by their savings and their father’s “ turkey money”, to find work. She enjoyed gardening, cross- stitch, crochet, embroidery; and did consignment sewing for many women in the Elmwood area and beyond. She also used her sewing skills when she volunteered with the Elmwood High School Band Parents Association, fitting the students’ second- hand uniforms. As her children grew older, she worked outside the home at Jacob Crawley/ TanJay, the Cavalier Hotel, the Marlborough Hotel, the Radisson Hotel and the Winnipeg Convention Centre. Up until recently, she volunteered at St. Ivan Suchavsky making perogies. In her 50’ s, she went to the Adult Education Centre to upgrade her education that had been cut short as a teenager. Prayers will be sung 7: 00 p. m. Wednesday, July 29 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held 10: 30 a. m. Thursday, July 30 also at the Chapel with Rev. Dr. M. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204- 956- 2193 TEST TEST ELIZABETH ( BETTY ANN) CALDWELL April 9, 1931 - July 22, 2015 Surrounded with love of family and friends, Betty Ann Caldwell died serenely on July 22, 2015 at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Betty Ann is survived by and will live on in the hearts of her eldest brother Elwood Caldwell ( Flossie) and younger sister Phyllis Leslie; as well as by her goddaughter Shaunna Morgan Siegers ( Don) and her ' grandson' James. She is also survived by Helen and Bob Orr, Agnes and Clive Morgan, John and Naomi McLeod, Bev and Karen Ridd, and many cherished nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father Charlie; mother Marion; brother- in- law Bob Leslie, and in March 2015 by her elder brother Keith Caldwell. Betty Ann was born in Dauphin, MB and raised in Gilbert Plains. She remembered her childhood as a wondrous time, filled with family, community, church, education, sports and music. Throughout her life, summers were spent at the family place at Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park, where she worked at the golf course clubhouse in her teenage years. Betty Ann graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Education ( 1953) before returning to Gilbert Plains to teach science at Brickburn High School, and then in Souris High School for two years. While in university she was chosen by Crossroads Africa to participate in a summer work project in Nigeria. Following her tenure in Souris, Betty Ann furthered her studies at the United Church Training School in Toronto. Upon her return to Manitoba, Betty Ann gained employment as a guidance counsellor with the Department of Indian Affairs in Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. While furthering her education later in life she was awarded a gold medal for highest standing in education ( 1966). Upon post graduate work in library sciences, she ended her education career as a teacher librarian at R. B. Russell Vocational School in Winnipeg. Betty Ann was an adventurer. She especially loved hiking, biking, canoeing, and crosscountry, downhill and telemark skiing. She travelled the world and thrilled in trips to many remote reaches of Canada. She was a charter member of the Grey Hares and enjoyed their activities. Betty Ann loved books, learning and was an accomplished musician and clown. Her love of the outdoors was rooted in her summers spent at Clear Lake where she was an integral part of the community since the 1930s, and she continued to venture to the family cabins until last year. She also made lasting contributions to her community through teaching, photography, music, speaking and volunteer work, touching many lives. We remember and rejoice in Betty Ann's long life, filled with love and pride in family and friends. Betty Ann's family and friends extend their gratitude to nurses, aides and doctors on the 5th Floor North of Grace Hospital for their skill, dedication and compassion. More thanks go to every one of the wonderful and caring staff at Sturgeon Creek 1 Retirement Residence. COM TEST TEST KHORSHED CANTEENWALA It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our dear mother Khorshed Canteenwala, with her children by her side, on July 23, 2015 at the age of 72. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Dr. Sony Canteenwala ( Eva), Rustam Canteenwala ( Laura) and Cherry Mulvey ( nee Canteenwala) ( Shaun); and her grandchildren Sierra, Emily, Kira, Emma, Sohrab, Zahra and Nahja. Khorshed is also survived by her dear brothers Jamshed, Bajan and Farokh; her loving sisters Homai, Tehmi, Avau and Kumi; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves her close friends Jack and Julia Poortenaar, Clem Rooney, and many, many others she has cherished on her journey. Khorshed was predeceased by her loving, devoted husband Homi Canteenwala, of 47 years of marriage, who passed only 19 months earlier; by her sisters Freny, Ghavare and Katy; by her dear friends Mr. Jeff and Freddy Jeffery ( nee Halpenny); by her father and mother- inlaw Major Erach and Khorshed Canteenwala; and by her parents Dhunjishaw and Naja Mavalwala who set the standard by which to live for our remarkable mother. Born November 21, 1942 in Delhi, India, she was brought up in a loving family of 11 by incredibly devoted parents. She received her B. A. and B. Ed. in India where she met her cherished Homi. They were married and set off for Canada in 1969. Through constant sacrifice and devotion to one another Khorshed and Homi made Canada home and raised their family. Khorshed became director of Universal Daycare Centre in Ralph Maybank School and held her position for 35 years until retiring in 2015. A beautiful bench has been dedicated to Khorshed on the playground of Ralph Maybank School. She was truly touched by this gesture of love. Her kindness, her warmth, her humility and gentleness could be felt to all who encountered her. Her devotion to children was unmistakable and unparalleled. Being present with our mother was simply to be present with love. If you were so lucky to encounter her for even a moment you would have felt her warmth. If you were a cherished friend you were humbled by her kindness. To be her children was simply a blessing. We take great comfort in knowing our Mother and Father are together again, so close to one another they could not be kept apart for long.... Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Khorshed’s wishes, prayers and ceremonies according to her faith will be carried out in India with family. All those wishing to share their sympathies, stories and wishes are welcomed and encouraged to reach out to Khorshed’s children. Reg was predeceased by his loving wife Alma, to whom he was married for 67 years, and was a devoted father to Wendy and Douglas ( Meredith). Predeceased by his son James. Loving grandfather to Jaime Kulik ( Jeff), Reilly and Connor. Father- in- law to Ed Calusinski. Reg and Alma met and married in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Shortly after their marriage, Reg served his country in the Second World War as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Over the years, they and their children lived in many cities in both Canada and the U. S. A selfmade man, Reg worked in a variety of fields, eventually becoming a senior executive with Allstate Insurance and later a successful entrepreneur in a variety of business ventures. A private, family service will be held to celebrate Reg’s remarkable life. Thank you to the doctors and staff at MacKenzie Health for their compassion and caring. TEST TEST EDWIN RICHARD FEY May 16, 1933 - July 24, 2015 At home peacefully in his sleep, Edwin Richard Fey passed away at the age of 82 years, and is now in Jesus’ arms. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Shirley, his children Terry ( Trish), Pam ( Jim) Hnatowich, Kevin ( Dana), his treasured grandchildren Ben ( Susie), Jayme, Quinton, Terralyn, Michael, Tayler ( Tristan), Trevor, and his great- grandchildren Logan, Devon, and Lyla- Fey. He will be sadly missed by his sister Rosalie ( Walter) Rach and brother Clifford ( Valerie) Fey and in- laws George and Doris Sawchuk, Erwin and Lucille Walesiak, Clifford and Grace Patzer, Aldfred Otto, and many nieces and nephews. Edwin was a barber and owned barbershops at the Gimli Airforce base until it closed and then in Winnipeg. He still had a few customers coming to the house to get a haircut and he enjoyed their company. After he gave up barbering he was a bus driver for Winnipeg Transit, retiring in 1993. He and Shirley then travelled to many different countries and he had many happy memories from those trips. Dad’s heart was happiest when he was with his family. He was always there when we needed him, with a smile, a word of advice or encouragement or a helping hand. We will miss him. A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 221 Kimberley Avenue, Winnipeg, on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 11: 00 a. m. Glen Eden Funeral Home and Cemetery ELIZABETH ( BETH) AGNES GOULD June 29, 1919 - July 23, 2015 It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Beth Gould at Grace Hospital. She was born in Waskada, MB, the eldest daughter of John and Lizzie ( nee Gibson) Gould. Most of her schooling was in Teulon, MB before attending Success Business College in Winnipeg. In 1941, Beth joined the Civil Service and spent six years working in Ottawa. In 1947, she returned to Winnipeg and worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Canadian Pension Commission. Beth retired in 1974 and worked as a volunteer for a variety of organizations, including church committees, taught Sunday School, helped with CGIT, Concordia hospital gift shop and Meals on Wheels. It was important to her to keep up with current affairs and sporting events. She knit many scarves, mitts and sweaters for the Cheer Board. Beth read extensively, loved to travel and did many pieces of needle point until her eyesight failed. Beth was a woman of strong faith and was a longtime member of both Grey Street United Church and the UCW. Beth was predeceased by her parents, sister Enid and three nephews Garry, Bradley and David. She is survived by her niece Carrol Helander and great nieces Enid and Jody – all from Australia. She is also survived by brotherin- law Allen Helander in High Prairie, AB; Wanda Helander and her sons Michael and Lucas in Toronto; many cousins and a host of friends. A celebration of life, honouring Beth, will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent, on Thursday, July 30 at 2: 00 p. m. Officiating will be Reverend Earl Gould. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Windsor Cemetery ( near Teulon, MB). A special thanks to the residents of Lions Place, staff members and Home Care workers who, Beth felt, were all like family. In addition, Beth especially looked forward to the many activities at her Wednesday Day Club.
