The 12- day festival saw an increase in ticket sales of almost 4,000 over the turnout in 2014. Daily attendance records were broken on seven of the 12 days with a new high of 237 sellouts. The 181 theatre companies split $ 800,142 in box- office revenue. The kids venue also drew bigger crowds, racking up total attendance of 4,640, a 22 per cent jump from 2014. Organizers estimate some 80,000 fringers spent some time at Old Market Square during the festival. The Harry S. Rintoul Award for best new Manitoba play went to Sydney Hayduk and Justin Otto for their two- hander The Manic Pixie Dream Girl . The other finalists were Leigh Anne Kehler for Die, Shakespeare Die , Angie St. Mars and Joanna Burden for Mars One and Andrew Lizotte for Revenge of the Meek . The win caps a charmed season for Otto, a 2013 University of Winnipeg grad. The 23- year- old actor performed in the RMTC Warehouse season- opener Armstrong's War in October and then toured it around rural Manitoba for six weeks starting in January. He appeared in Theatre Projects Manitoba's I Dream of Diese l in April and Bad Jews at Winnipeg Jewish Theatre the following month before he and Hayduk hit the fringe circuit in June, performing in Montreal and London, Ont., before returning to Winnipeg. The Manic Pixie Dream Girl opens at the Calgary Fringe Festival on Saturday. Next year's Winnipeg fringe fest will run July 13- 24. - Staff AZIZ Ansari is getting his own Netflix series. The comic has already headlined comedy specials for the streaming site, but Master of None is a comedy that will follow the actor as an indecisive 30- year- old named Dev, living in New York. He created the series and will co- executive produce. The cast includes H John Benjamin and Eric Wareheim. Master of None hits Netflix on Nov. 6. - The Associated Press NEW YORK - Hulk Hogan is taking to Twitter in the aftermath of World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. cutting ties with him amid a report that the wrestling star used racial slurs in a conversation captured on a sex tape. The 61- year- old reached out to his 1.3 million followers in a series of tweets this weekend, thanking them for their support and saying he was " overwhelmed by the love." " I will prove who I really am," he wrote in another tweet. Hogan's publicist confirmed Monday that Hogan is using his Twitter account to retweet messages of support and respond to fans. WWE has not said why it ended its relationship with the wrestler. In announcing the break, the company said it is " committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide." Hogan apologized for using " offensive language" Friday but refused to offer further comment on Monday. He is currently seeking $ 100 million from the website Gawker for posting part of the sex tape of him with Heather Cole, the ex- wife of Hogan's one- time friend and radio show host Bubba the Love Sponge Clem. - The Associated Press CHICAGO - Farm Aid will have a 30th- anniversary concert featuring Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews in Chicago. Plans were announced Tuesday for the Farm Aid 30 show on Sept. 19. Other performers include Mavis Staples, Kacey Musgraves and Jack Johnson. Nelson is Farm Aid's president and founder. He says the event, to be held at FirstMerit Bank Pavilion on Northerly Island along Lake Michigan, will " celebrate the impact we've had and rally our supporters for the work ahead."
