Canada’s government announced last week it was sending drones and leased Black Hawk helicopters to increase security along the border, days before Donald Trump’s sched- uled inauguration as president. Trump had threatened to impose tariffs unless Canada tightened border security. “The flights will target all illegal activity along the border; this includes searching for individuals who illegally enter Canada between official ports of entries and for the human smugglers who facilitate their travel,” Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Monday. “It will also be used to detect and stop il- legal smuggling and trafficking of contraband such as illicit drugs into, and out of, Canada.” EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED IN SHOPLIFTING INCIDENT A WOMAN has been charged after a store em- ployee was assaulted by a shoplifter who also pulled out a weapon during the encounter.
