Commitment to Excellence
“We’re all here for the residents,” says
Kristie Peters, reflecting the passion
and dedication of the ACE team. Amber
Meilleur adds, “We have our team
meetings, and we’re constantly thinking
about how we can make life better.” This
commitment to continuous improvement
and person directed living defines the
Alzheimer’s Centre of Excellence at
Riverview Health Centre as a beacon
of hope and support for individuals,
families and care partners navigating the
challenges of advanced dementia.
We offer a higher staff-to-resident ratio, combined
with a strong focus on staff education and training.
This enables us to provide exceptional, person-
centered care and meaningful support that are
tailored to the individual needs of each person.
The ACE focuses on addressing unique challenges
of individuals living with advanced dementia,
such as overstimulation, which can lead to
responsive behaviours. The care team works to
foster a calming and supportive atmosphere.
The community features smaller, quieter spaces,
including intimate dining areas where residents
are thoughtfully seated based on their preferences
and interests, helping to promote comfort and
connection.
At its core, it enhances residents’ lives
by prioritizing safety, personalized care, and
meaningful engagement. The community is
designed with a circular wandering path that
encourages freedom of movement within a secure
safe space.
We provide a compassionate and supportive
environment where residents, their families, and
care partners can feel valued and connected.
Residents, families, and care partners are
welcomed into a safe and inviting space to share
meaningful moments through recreational
activities and creative engagement, enriching daily
life and fostering emotional well-being.
ACE’s daily life stations, like this
office desk, provide opportunities for
connection.

HELICOPTER TAKES
BORDER FLIGHT
BLACK Hawk helicopter flights began along
Manitoba’s border with the United States on
Sunday.
Canada’s government announced last week
it was sending drones and leased Black Hawk
helicopters to increase security along the
border, days before Donald Trump’s sched-
uled inauguration as president. Trump had
threatened to impose tariffs unless Canada
tightened border security.
“The flights will target all illegal activity
along the border; this includes searching
for individuals who illegally enter Canada
between official ports of entries and for
the human smugglers who facilitate their
travel,” Manitoba RCMP said in a news release
Monday.
“It will also be used to detect and stop il-
legal smuggling and trafficking of contraband
such as illicit drugs into, and out of, Canada.”
EMPLOYEE ASSAULTED IN
SHOPLIFTING INCIDENT
A WOMAN has been charged after a store em-
ployee was assaulted by a shoplifter who also
pulled out a weapon during the encounter.
The incident happened at a retail business on
the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West at about
5 p.m. Sunday.
Officers learned a woman had tried to leave
without paying for her merchandise, the
Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release
Monday. She was confronted by an employee
just outside the store’s front entrance.
At one point, the woman brandished a “small
edged weapon,” which was promptly taken
away from her, the release said.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, suffered
“minor upper body injuries” and did not go to
hospital.
A 39-year-old Winnipeg woman has been
charged with the robbery and possession of a
weapon. She was already wanted on a warrant
for possession of property obtained by crime
over $5,000 and theft under $5,000. She was
detained in custody.
SUSPECT SOUGHT IN
HOME INVASION
RCMP are searching for a woman in connec-
tion with a home invasion in Norway House.
Police went to the home at about 4:20 a.m.
Monday.
The homeowner told officers the people
inside awakened when a man and a woman,
both carrying guns, kicked a door in.
Two adults and six children were inside. The
victims know the pair, RCMP said in a news
release.
The male culprit fired a shot while grappling
with one of the residents, the release said.
The pair then fled the home, leaving the guns.
Officers found a 29-year-old man a short
distance away. Norway House resident Jeremy
Scribe, 29, has been charged with 11 offences
and remains in custody.
RCMP are still looking for Kendra Omand, 24,
of Norway House.
RCMP asked anyone with information on
her whereabouts to call their officers at 204-
359-4955 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at
1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
OFFICER HIT BY DRUNK
DRIVER’S VEHICLE: RCMP
A DAUPHIN woman is facing charges after she
allegedly hit an RCMP officer with her vehicle
while fleeing a parking lot.
RCMP tried to speak with the driver after
they saw the vehicle stopped at a business on
Main Street at about 2:05 a.m. Saturday. The
driver refused to comply with the Mountie
and drove off, striking the officer, who
suffered a minor injury, RCMP said in a news
release Monday.
The vehicle went south on Main Street, then
hit a snowbank while making a turn onto
another street.
The woman, who refused to get out of the
vehicle, was arrested after officers reached
through the open window to open the door.
The 40-year-old woman later provided
breath samples that were more than twice
the legal limit, RCMP said.
She is facing charges of assaulting a police
officer, flight from police, driving while
impaired and dangerous driving. She was
released from police custody.
