A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the Selkirk United Church at 1:30 p.m. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. Tributes: www.gilbartfuneralhome.com GAELAN THORNLEY DE WOLF Gaelan Thornley De Wolf (born Lois Gail Dodds) arrived quietly in St. Boniface, Manitoba on December 10, 1934, to Fred and Ivy Dodds. She had a happy childhood. Frequent summers were spent at Lac Lu, ON. Frequent winters were spent walking to school in several feet of snow in a knee length skirt. She left this world peacefully in her sleep on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her children. In between her first breath and her last, Gaelan enjoyed conversation, music, reading and above all laughter. She had an excellent sense of humour and her laugh was infectious. Gaelan is survived by her children Daurean (Rob Sloan), John (Lisa Pucci), David (Janice), and Gaelan (Bill Basso), her grandchildren Ty (Ember) Sloan, Meaghan de Wolf and Brent de Wolf, her great-grandchild Maeve Sloan and her siblings Lyn (Brian Gough), John (Jeanine) Dodds and Richard Dodds. Yes, you read that correctly. There are two generations of Gaelan's. Did I mention Mom had an excellent sense of humour! Gaelan moved to Victoria in the late 1980's, settling in Oak Bay. She loved Oak Bay and was friends with many in the neighbourhood. She enjoyed daily walks to Estevan Village, Willows Beach and Cattle Point. Gaelan was active in the community, and volunteered for several organizations, including the Oak Bay Fire Department (assisting in emergency services/preparation), the United Church Thrift Store, and the Monterey Centre. Gaelan attended Univ. of British Columbia attaining a master's degree in the Native (Tlingit) Languages. During University she met her future husband, John A. de Wolf (an economic consultant). Gaelan also attended Univ. of Victoria where she graduated with a Ph.D. in Canadian English, studying the differences between Vancouver and Ottawa intonations. You can well imagine the fun growing up in that household. Gaelan authored two books. She co- authored the Gage Abridged Canadian Dictionary as well as authored the Social and Regional Factors in Canadian English: A Study of Phonological variables and Grammatical Items in Ottawa and Vancouver. As it turns out she collects royalties for both, which are available on Amazon. Gaelan requested that there be no service for her. So please, remember her smile, her love for her family, friends and community, as well as her laughter, and donate to the charity of your choice, because everyone needs help in these times. The family would like to thank Gaelan's friends Marjorie, Naomi and Speedy and members of the staff at Parkwood (Kathy, Ivan, Yiwen and the care team) for their kindness and support. Lina was predeceased by her husband Carmelo Salvatore “Nino” D’Aleo. Lina is survived by her son Darin (Danette), daughter Liliana (Lloyd), grandchildren Danielle (Kevin), Devon, Sara, Nicholas (Haruhi), and great-grandchildren Gemma, Bowen, Kaia, and Hinata. Lina was born in Nicastro, Italy and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1955 with her husband Nino. At the time they arrived in Winnipeg, neither had any family to help them integrate into Canadian society. But they formed a community with several other Italian, families, all fairly new immigrants to Canada, with whom they formed deep bonds. They raised their children among these families, giving them a sense of extended family. As their dear friend Frank Loschiavo once said, “There’s no mother like a Calabrese mother”. And this was so true of Lina. Everything Lina did centered around the love and care of her family. She was an incredible cook and gardener. She had a beautiful voice and could be heard singing her favourite Italian ballads as she did chores around the house or cooked dinner. Lina was a talented seamstress, designing and sewing beautiful clothes, including wedding gowns, for family and friends Lina and Nino acquired a second home in Florida and enjoyed many years living by the ocean which they both loved, and where they enjoyed growing tropical fruit trees. In 2003, Lina and Nino moved to West Bank, B.C. to enjoy a climate and landscape that resembled their native southern Italy. We’ll miss you Mum, Nonna, and Bisnonna. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. We wish to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses at Kelowna General Hospital who provided Lina with such compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. PETER FREJUK June 29, 1926 - November 6, 2025 After a long, full, and beautiful life, Peter Frejuk passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 99. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Rita. Peter will be forever cherished by his children, Wendy (Doug McMullin) and John (Christal O’Brien-Frejuk), and deeply missed by his beloved granddaughters, Shayna (Steve Smith) and Kara. Born in Transcona in 1926 to Ukrainian immigrants John and Anastasia Frejuk, Peter grew up alongside his siblings, Marie, Nick and Ann. From a young age, he embodied hard work, dedicating 42 years to CN Rail with a two-year pause to serve his country during the Second World War - a period of his life he carried with quiet dignity. A dedicated community member, Peter taught First Aid with St. John Ambulance, volunteered as a CN firefighter, and helped found the Transcona Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs. His artistic spirit shone through in his sketches and woodworking. Known as an incredible dancer, Peter often had a line of eager partners waiting to share a turn with him at weddings and socials. He loved the water and spent countless summers at Grand Beach and Spruce Sands, even fulfilling his dream of visiting Waikiki beach with Rita on a bucket list trip to Hawaii. In 1959, Peter married his sweetheart Rita, and together they bought their forever home on Cloverdale Crescent - while still on their honeymoon. That home became the heart of their lives, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories: holidays, birthdays, quiet evenings, and everything in between. After Rita’s passing in 2022, Peter remained there, surrounded by love and care from his devoted family, neighbours and homecare workers, until just before his passing. A small family service will be held in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, in honour of Peter’s lifelong love of animals - especially his “fur grandbabies,” who never failed to make him smile. In the words of Peter’s favourite show, The Lawrence Welk Show: “And now, until we meet again - adios, au revoir, auf wiedersehen - goodnight.” ROGER GODARD July 15, 1940 – November 9, 2025 With his family by his side, Roger passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.
